Before you spend your money on a blow dryer, read this. π
Most stylists shop by the name, the price, or the power. But the feature that actually matters, especially on textured hair, is whether it's ionic. An ionic dryer emits negative ions that seal the cuticle and lock moisture in, giving you a healthier, smoother press with less damage.
Shop by the technology, not the brand. π€

The number one question I get asked is how do I build my clientele. Here's one secret. π€
Let your CLIENTS do the work. Make every client a walking billboard. When she leaves looking amazing and someone asks who did her hair, that's free marketing. Then reward it, a free treatment or a discount for every few clients they refer, so they have a reason to talk.
Word of mouth referrals are the best. Your happy clients are your best advertisement. π€

If professional products are breaking your budget as a new stylist, stop. You're shopping in the wrong place. π
One of the many things they didn't teach us in hair school: as a new stylist, you're still trying out products to figure out what works best. So why pay full price while you're experimenting? Look what I found at TJ Maxx. Joico and other pro lines at a fraction of the price. TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross carry them way cheaper than the beauty supply.
Just know what you're buying. Check the label and know your brands. π€

If your first shampoo doesn't lather up, you might have a problem. And it's not your shampoo. π
They taught us the basics in hair school, but real life behind the chair is different. Before you reach for the shampoo, run that water as warm as your client can take it over the scalp for as long as possible. That opens the cuticle and releases the dirt, grime, and buildup.
The water running off should look murky and cloudy, full of product. That's the buildup lifting off. The more you pull off, the better your shampoo lathers. π€

So what exactly is After Hair School? π€
It's more than just hair. We teach you how to conduct yourself with the right demeanor, give great customer service, set up your Roth IRA, have proper insurance, read hair textures, and so much more. Because we're building whole professionals, not just stylists.
Tomorrow we're going LIVE. π΄ Monday Morning Meetup at 11am inside our free community, where I answer all YOUR questions.

Let's talk about that curl chart. The 4C, the 3B, the whole numbering system. No disrespect to the man who made it, but I've never liked it. π€
After 15+ years behind the chair, here's what I know: your client's curl number doesn't tell you how to care for their hair. It doesn't tell you the porosity, the density, or whether the hair is fine, coarse, damaged, or healthy. Those are the things that decide which products to use, not a number. And one head can have five different curl patterns anyway.
Read the porosity. Read the density. Read the actual hair.
That chart is man made. But the coils coming out of your head were made by the Father, and no man could ever capture all of that in one little chart. π€

The perfect silk press is created in the shampoo bowl, not with the flat iron. π
One of the many things they didn't teach us in hair school: true silk comes from your prep. Detoxing the buildup, a deep moisturizing shampoo, and a rich conditioning treatment. Before a hot tool ever touches the hair strands, properly cleansed and hydrated hair should already look smooth, shiny and SILKY after the blow dry.
The flat iron only seals in what you built at the bowl. π€
