🧐Thinking about going into the hair industry or feeling stuck in what used to be your dream career?
Let me tell you what separates good hair, from a good hairstylist.💇‍♀️

Yes of course, being good at hair will obviously bring people back to your chair, but after years of talking to new clients that sit in my chair- good hair doesn’t always mean good client retention.

☁️Stop treating services like favors. This one is about your boundaries! If you are bending over backwards to accommodate clients, taking home their grievances and struggles, texting back at all hours of the night, you are never truly “clocking out”. This can leave you feeling burnt out, and overall kind of bitter towards the people who are supporting your career. Set boundaries, your career and clients will thank you.

☁️Every client is looking for something and someone different. Being able to not only look into what your key demographic has issues with, and how you will solve that for them, you need to learn to ask the right questions so the client sitting in front of you feels like you understand and can solve their hair problems too.

☁️Cut out the Shame. The amount of new clients I have had that have been straight up bullied while getting a service done is gross. Is box color any hair stylist’s favorite to work against? Absolutely not. Is your Clients Suave shampoo the best? No. But shaming their routine, or past choices is isolating your clients and making them look at other stylists’ pages while they’re processing in your chair. Understand where they are coming from, and educate them on what to do moving forward.

☁️Listen. Actually listen, to what your clients are saying verbally, and to their body language. Sometimes the most frustrating problems could’ve been solved with the simplest conversation. Digging deeper into what about their inspiration picture they like/don’t like. And when you’re done, give them space to decide if they like their hair instead of willing the fact that they do into their heads🧙‍♀️🪄
