They are not continuing our insurance for 6 months. They are paying us a taxable lump sum equal to 6 months of premiums, and we choose whether to use that for COBRA or other coverage.

When it says “6 months of insurance”, it does NOT mean Amazon is keeping us insured for 6 months.

It means they are giving us a lump sum payment equal to what 6 months of our health insurance premiums cost.

That payment:

• Is separate from severance pay
• Is taxable
• Is meant to help cover COBRA or other insurance

So basically:

If someone had employee-only coverage, the 6-month premium value could be around $3,000–$4,000 before taxes.

If someone had family coverage, it could be much higher possibly $6,000–$10,000 before taxes.

That money comes in addition to:

• Severance pay (minimum 4 weeks based on tenure)
• PTO payout (if any)

So for many of us, the total payout will be:

✔️ Severance pay
PLUS
✔️ 6-month insurance lump sum
PLUS
✔️ PTO payout

Important: You only receive the severance and insurance lump sum after signing the severance and release agreement.
