I am always so obsessed with this clients hair!!! I feel like I should pay her to let me cut it, because it is a work of art for me!

What an amazing transformation today!! I cut about 5 inches off and gave her a beautiful layered cut. Then, I colored her hair all over with the perfect neutral ash tone. After that, I added baby highlights all over!! It was absolutely gorgeous on her, and she loved it! Success!!!πŸ’•πŸ’–

Saw this on a stylist feed and had to share !!!

I overheard a conversation the other day that really annoyed me and stuck with me. A receptionist in my doctors office was talking about her hairstylist to a coworker, and said β€œ she charges $40 for a 15 minute haircut. That’s ridiculous! She’s making more money than we are!”
It really stuck with me how uneducated this was for her to say. So let’s get some things straight.

Your stylist doesn’t get PTO.
Your stylist doesn’t get paid sick days or holidays.
Your stylist doesn’t have company paid insurance, or probably any insurance at all.
We spend money weekly JUST TO WORK.
for example, I spend $300-500 per week on product. Literally just product. ( color, retail, etc)
In our area weekly booth rent runs $175-200+ per week.
So right there your stylist is spending $500-700 WEEKLY just to work. No profit yet, just to get their foot in the door and service you.
This doesn’t include the cost of continuing education, the crazy taxes we PAY IN ( yes, no W2. No tax return for us!) or the cost of keeping up our license.

So no, we do not pocket that whole $40 for your haircut.
We get a fraction of it. Also you’re paying for our knowledge and skill to do that haircut immaculately in 15 minutes. It’s not about the time it takes, it’s about the skill, experience and knowledge to make it happen.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk ✨

I love my job! I got to transition one of my long time color clients to gracefully embracing her beautiful gray hair. She has been a red head of different shades over the years, reds can be the hardest to lift out of the hair. So 4 and 1/2 hours later, we arrived at a beautiful result!!

What a beautiful transformation on this beautiful lady. I did a balayage with babylights, toned with a cool toned glosser and did a blunt cut with long layers. 🀩

This is one of my favorite color melts I've ever done!! My niece let me get creative with her hair and I had so much fun. She is definitely pretty in pink!πŸ’•

Even though it seems most of California is allowed to open salons for inside services, Alameda County is still not allowing us to. Hold tight, they will let us know more this week? I miss you all!!!πŸ’‡β€β™€οΈπŸ’‡β€β™‚οΈ

I'm so sorry to say that Alameda County has extended our reopening again. πŸ˜₯πŸ’”

I just went through the barbicide certification. As a Cosmetologist we are already trained in strict disinfection, sanitation and safety protocols. I took my state board test almost 35 years ago. I hate to say it, but state board was not that concerned with how well we could cut hair. Their main concern was safety, sanitation and that we knew how to avoid spreading infectious diseases. I'm excited to eventually get back to doing what I love and seeing all of my wonderful clients again! I believe that I can do everything in my power, using our safety and sanitation measures to keep my clients as safe as possible. I was hoping we could reopen next week, but it doesn't look like it will be able to happen yet? Our county has not given us the green light just yet. When they do, we will be ready!!!!πŸ’‡β€β™€οΈπŸ’‡β€β™‚οΈπŸ’•πŸ™πŸ’•

I am sharing this from another Hairstylist's page. I'm not sure that this is how I will handle it when I am able to start working again. But, this is food for thought. I am already so stressed worrying about how I will make all of my wonderful clients happy and get them back on my books in a timely manner. I am asking a lot of patience and understanding from everyone as I try to figure this all out. I love you all and miss you more than you know! I look forward to the day I get to see you in my chair and hear all about how you are all doing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Stay well!πŸ™πŸ’•πŸ’‡πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ’•πŸ™
