Now I know we’re all anxious for to open up soon. But for right now I still don’t have a date. We’re still working. The progress is still being made, my cabinets are in, countertops are done, just a few small projects left and getting some hand-painted lettering done in the shop this week it’s gonna look sick stay tuned for more.

In 1887 John Lorcher operated the largest barbershop in the city with 7 chairs on the main floor and 4 bathtubs on the third floor. This shop was located on the south side of Columbia street two doors east of 4th Street.

Lorcher was born in Wurtemburg in 1835 and emigrated to the United States as a young man. He died in Lafayette in 1892.

A local news item reported his shelves held more than 300 customer shaving mugs. In addition to haircuts, shaves, and baths, they also offered treatments with Swedish leaches. The advertisement did not specify what those treatments were supposed to cure. In 1874 Lorcher worked out an agreement with all other local barbers to raise their shave price from 10 cents to 15 Cents.
