Okay this is bugging me today. Why is it that the reiki community is filled with dogma instead of being open minded?

One reiki site just posted that they will take down any symbols if you post them. When asked about it they said to keep the symbols sacred and secret. I pointed out that sacred and secret are not the same nor does being one imply the other. I also pointed out that if someone can google the symbols and buy any number of books with the symbols in them, then the symbols are no longer secret. So I suggested that maybe what should be considered sacred isn't the symbols but the energy transferred from the teacher to the student.

The symbols are just tools to direct and define the energy being sent. They are no longer secret the moment they are shared with anyone else and that happened a long time ago so stop teaching and passing on this dogma to your students. If the symbols should be secret then create your own reiki symbols and keep them to yourself.

Oh wait a minute, I bet that thought never made it through the dogma. It is possible to get or create a personal set of symbols. Sensei Usui may have been the first but he isn't the only person capable of creating a reiki system. The Karuna Reiki® was created by William Rand and I am pretty sure that some of the different reiki schools teach the symbols differently. If the mind is closed because of the dogma then it is not possible to think outside of the reiki box and the practitioner will only be a mediocre healer at best.

How can anyone claim to be a teacher of Reiki if they are stuck in a believe that is never allowed to be questioned and it is not allowable for others to question them? Questioning or being questioned about the beliefs is the best way to find out if the belief still holds true or if the belief has changed but is being held on to for some reason. To say that something has to be one way but not allow anyone to question it isn't defending the belief it is being closed minded and dogmatic. Everything changes, that is a universal law so trying to force people to stay within a dogma is not going to bring in more practitioners it is in fact going to drive them away.

The students learn from the teachers and the teachers learn from the students. That is the way it has been since man started teaching each other how to do things. So why are some Reiki teachers teaching their students to never question and to just follow what they say? This isn't creating new reiki practitioners it is creating robots that are unable to think or copies of the teacher that are dependent on the teacher for their answers.

I have found that when practicing reiki one has to be open to the energy and allow it to flow and be willing to go places and do things I was not trained to do. How are all those robots going to handle it when the energy pulls them to a completely different part of the body and it wants a symbol that they either haven't learned yet or wants to use a symbol in a way that goes against what they were taught? Will those student listen to the call of the energy or will they stay in the rut that they were forced to create and only do what they were taught?

Okay I am finished with my rant. Sorry about that but I had to get it off my chest.

Oops my bad.) Mercury retrograde doesn't end until the 11th. Dang I was so looking forward to having things get back to normal.)

Good Morning all.) It looks like we have survived another Mercury Retrograde. Mercury goes direct sometime today but it will take it a couple more days to get back up to full speed. So be patient with traffic and each other and things should be back to normal soon.)
