Sometimes putting something on that makes you feel good gives you that tiny piece of yourself back.
You’re still Mom. Still doing 48 things at once. Still probably reheating the same coffee for the third time. ☕️

But you feel a little more like you while doing it.
& around here, we consider that a very responsible financial decision. 🌅🤎

When Ryan & I opened BLK BOX, I knew how to coach. I knew how to write workouts, push people, modify when needed & help someone get stronger 💪🏼

I thought that meant I knew what I was doing 😂

Almost 5 years later… building & owning this gym together has taught us SO much more than I ever expected.

I learned that people might come in for the workout, but that’s not always why they stay 🥹🖤

They stay because someone knows their name. Because their coach notices when they’re having an off day. Because someone asks where they’ve been when they miss a week. Because they walk through the door & actually feel like they belong here.

I’ve learned that the music matters 🎶 The energy matters. A clean gym matters. The way someone is greeted matters. The random conversations before & after class matter.

Ryan & I have learned how hard it is to lead people 😅 How hard it is to let go of control 🫠 How to have conversations we REALLY don’t want to have. How to make decisions for the business even when they’re uncomfortable.

But I think the biggest thing we’ve learned is that we were never just building a place to workout.

We were building a community. 🖤

Some of you have been here since the beginning. Some of you just walked through our doors for the first time. Some have left & found their way back.

& every version of BLK BOX has taught us something.

Almost 5 years in & we’re still figuring things out 😂 Still changing things. Still learning from mistakes. Still trying to make this place better for the people who trust us with an hour of their day.

Turns out… writing the workouts was the easy part 😂🤦🏻‍♀️🖤

& honestly… I have a damn good feeling that it’s all going to work out just fine 🌅

I think people see consistency & assume it means things come easy.

They do not 🙃

I get overwhelmed. I get tired. I fall behind. Some days I’m killing it and some days I’m just trying to get everyone where they need to be 😂

The biggest thing I’ve learned is to make the things that matter to me require less decision making.

I schedule my workouts.
I prep what I can the night before.
I keep certain parts of my week predictable.
& when everything goes sideways, I don’t throw the whole day away.

I just do the next thing I can.
My systems aren’t there because I have it all together.
They’re there because I don’t🤍

I love my girls & how they believe in me & my wild ideas🥹
