Breaking: CNN may be about to lose one of its sharpest legal reporters at the exact moment the network is staring down a political makeover nobody should pretend is normal.

Paula Reid, 43, told CNN she will leave when her contract expires, even after the network offered her a generous renewal deal. Her concern is the looming $111 billion Paramount takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company.

Reid reportedly had candid conversations with CNN executives about her discomfort with the takeover and CNN’s unsettled future. Executives wanted her to stay but could not offer assurances about editorial independence.

Look at CBS. Ellison installed Bari Weiss as editor in chief. 60 Minutes saw an exodus. Anderson Cooper left the show. Scott Pelley was fired after clashing with management.

Ellison insists nothing will change.

David Ellison: We want to be in the truth business. We want to be in the trust business. And that’s not going to change.

Problem for him is, no journalist buys it. At least, not Paula Reid.
