A Hair Stylist designs or maintains hairstyles. They shampoo, cut, dye and style hair. They also apply chemicals to change the texture of hair, such as permanents or straightening solutions. Stylists also teach clients about the best ways to care for their hair. Hair Stylist responsibilities include cleaning and cutting hair, offering hair care and hair styling consultations and recommending hair styling products, among other duties. Cut, trim, and shape hair into desired style. Utilize clippers, combs, rushes, scissors, and blow-out guns to style and cut hair. Apply lather using a thick brush chin, cheeks, and neck. Use razor to shave beard or mustache.

The act of barbering requires possessing a number of physical skills, as well, including:

Arm/hand control, stability.

Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Manual dexterity and strength (the ability to grip and manipulate tools)

Finger dexterity (the ability to grasp and manipulate very small objects)
