So sad to hear about Jess. She was very supportive of me and oir events. Sending love, light, and prayers to her family, friends, and the JessiCurl team

Jessica McGuinty was a bright light whose spirit will endure for all those that embrace it.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again.

On the evening of June 10 2023, with her loving husband, her father, her amazing doctor and dedicated hospice team by her side, Jessica succumbed to her disease peacefully at her home in Southern California.

For years Jess has been dealing with a number of serious medical maladies. Earlier this year Jess was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, an aggressive collection of inherited disorders that affect connective tissues with a scarcity of treatment options.

We are humbled by the fact that in the time that she was dealing with her diagnosis she was able to witness and be thrilled that her products were becoming available to the Jessicurl Community of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the EU.

Jessicurl’s origins go back “WAAYY further” than when she made her first batch of (what would become) Rockin’ Ringlets on the stove top of her small apartment in 2002. Jess actually became obsessed with her curly hair challenges around age 14 when she realized being told to just “brush it out” was not a viable option. Through research of natural products to make from scratch she found her true “sisterhood” on the website NaturallyCurly.com and achieved her “lightbulb moment” when she posted her personal recipe for a product that actually worked in the website's chat group. Within 24 hours emails flooded in saying “we aren’t going to make this. Can’t we just buy it from you?’, and in 2002 a company was born.

Over the last few years Jess had taken more of a supporting role in the company to concentrate on her health and left the success of Jessicurl, and her vision, in the capable hands of her hand picked management team and the bond they have personally forged over years.

She forged Jessicurl as not only a company but a community to celebrate who we are in our naturally curly state instead of loading our beautiful curls with chemicals. All while inspiring us to be kinder to each other in the process. Her revolutionary tactics and positive aura will serve as her legacy to all of us forever reminding us that we do indeed have the right to remain curly.

We will be organizing a celebration of her life to be announced at a future date. To share your thoughts, memories, and condolences please contact [email protected].

Sending love and prayers to the Thank God It's Natural family...

I’m back! Curlychronicles… in the South? 11/14/2021

Look who popped up on my YouTube subscription newsfeed. My first natural hair event I attended was over 10 years ago. And she is how I met a few of you! Glad to see her and hear she is doing well.

I’m back! Curlychronicles… in the South? Back after a 9 year hiatus. A bit older, and a bit wiser, I share why I decided to get back to contributing to the tubez. This channel will focus on my life ...

Perspective | I was ashamed to admit I had a live-in nanny. Here’s why. 09/16/2021

Not curl related but curly mom related.
If you could afford it, would you have a nanny?

Perspective | I was ashamed to admit I had a live-in nanny. Here’s why. Black women, historically, have cared for their own children while working. At times they were more likely to be the help than hire it.

Here is a great resource for Los Angeles County low-income families.

Please share with those who need this support!
MEN TORS has a new program where they rent a laptop for FREE to low-income families with school-age children. An adult must sign the rental agreement and be the responsible person.

Mentors LA is a fellow AAIMM Village Fund grantee through Invest in Kids.

Photos from Dr Yolanda Lenzy, MD's post 07/13/2021

We love Dr Yolanda Lenzy, MD around these parts. I recommend her to my families who I support with breastfeeding and are suffering from eczema. And of course, I highly recommend Dr. Yolanda to my curly loves who are experiencing any form of hair loss. If you are experiencing hair loss, please do not hesitate to reach out. She is amazing, compassionate, AND she is a licensed cosmetologist. She knows how much our curls mean to us.

I watched Jada closely when she first started cutting her hair. As someone who always wanted to cut my hair Jada did it before me. Her cuts were life giving. Then, she shared her story about hair loss. I felt her. I understood her. In our age group, hair is everything. This is how we pull men. Our identity is in our hair. It's tied to our beauty and our femininity. The betrayal to have it fall out - I felt Jada. I'm happy she found the strength, courage, and beauty to take this next step.

She is beautiful.

Come thru Jada! I can't wait to see that bomb picture with her hand, flat against her head, giving all of the face she has to give. Come! Thru! Jada!

LA Curly Girls, it's with great sadness that I'm coming to you requesting prayers and energy transfers for one of our own.

Adrienne Spellman, founder of JadenMoon Natural Soaps & Skin Care lost her son last week to gun violence while standing up against a bully. I had the pleasure meeting Adrienne's baby on a few occasions.

Adrienne has been a wonderful supporter and member of LA Curly Girls. I'm waiting for information on how we can support Adrienne during this time. Until then please pray for this family and send them all of the positive energy and thoughts.
