How many of you have ever thought about your blood sugar in the same breath as Alzheimer’s?
Because they’re more connected than most people realize.
Alzheimer’s disease is often called diabetes 3.0. That’s not a metaphor. It’s a framework that describes what happens when the brain loses its ability to use insulin properly. The same metabolic dysfunction driving type 2 diabetes can, over time, affect the brain’s ability to fuel itself.
Which means your A1C isn’t just a diabetes number. It’s a brain health number.
At Young Naturopathic Center in Los Gatos, this is exactly the kind of conversation we’re having with patients who want to get ahead of cognitive decline, not just react to it.
You don’t have to wait for symptoms to start asking better questions about your blood sugar.

The cognitive changes that start in your 40s aren’t random. They’re hormonal. And they’re predictable.
Your 30s: progesterone drops, sleep shifts, brain fog creeps in.
Your 40s: estrogen fluctuates, perimenopause begins, verbal memory and processing speed take a hit.
Your 50s: estrogen drops sharply, cardiovascular risk rises, cognitive protection decreases.
The earlier you know where your hormones are, the more you can do about it.

Your doctor has 12 minutes. These questions don’t get asked in 12 minutes.
Do you feel like yourself anymore? When did you last feel rested? Are you crying more than you used to? When did s*x stop feeling good? Is your hair falling out in the shower? Are you angry and don’t know why?
We ask these. Every patient. At Young Naturopathic Center in Los Gatos, this is where the conversation starts, not where it ends.
Tag the woman in your life who’s been asked none of these.
That which is not measured is not treated. I said what I said.
The number of patients I see who started a GLP-1 with zero baseline labs is genuinely staggering. No A1C. No metabolic panel. No gallbladder workup. No gut function. And then they’re surprised by the side effects.
The medication didn’t create the problem. It revealed it.
At Young Naturopathic Center in Los Gatos, every GLP-1 patient starts with comprehensive baseline labs. That’s not optional. That’s the protocol. If you’re on a GLP-1 with no labs behind it, that’s the conversation worth having.
Every GLP-1 patient at YNC starts with full baseline labs. That’s the protocol. Link in bio.
Nausea on your GLP-1 isn’t a side effect to ignore. Treat it like a signal.
When I see a patient struggling with nausea on a GLP-1, the first thing I do is look at their labs. Slow gut motility, low digestive enzymes, off metabolic markers. These are usually what’s actually driving the problem.
You might still have some side effects. But you don’t have to live with them the entire time you’re on the medication. That’s not the standard of care at Young Naturopathic Center in Los Gatos. We figure out what’s underneath it.
If your GLP-1 protocol came without a baseline workup, that’s where we start. Book a consult. Link in bio.
How many of you took birth control for acne? That’s exactly how GLP-1s work, and most people have no idea.
Doctors use medications for more than one thing all the time!
GLP-1s were designed for blood sugar regulation, yes. But the downstream benefits? Kind of a big deal.
✦ Heart disease: reduced cardiovascular events in patients with existing heart conditions
✦ Kidney function: shown to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease
✦ Sleep apnea: the one a lot of you have and probably haven’t mentioned to your doctor
Weight loss is the side effect everyone talks about. But these are the benefits that don’t make the headlines 👆
If you’re in Los Gatos or anywhere in the Bay Area and you’ve been curious about GLP-1s, this is the full picture. No judgment here.

GLP-1s suppress your cravings across the board. Food, s*x, and thirst. If you’re on one and your water intake has dropped, that’s not discipline. That’s the medication working against you.
Dehydration on a GLP-1 is the fast track to nausea, fatigue, and kidney stress. Don’t rely on thirst to tell you when to drink. The signal is suppressed.
Aim for at least half your body weight in ounces per day. If you’re on a higher dose, add more. Use a marked bottle, an app, whatever makes it automatic.
At Young Naturopathic Center in Los Gatos, hydration tracking is part of every GLP-1 protocol. Because the medication is a tool, and the protocol is what keeps you well.
Save this if you’re on a GLP-1 and your water intake has dropped.
Most GLP-1 patients never get dietary advice. That’s not a small slip-up. That’s the whole protocol missing.
GLP-1s slow digestion and shift hunger signals. They do NOTHING for the muscle mass you’re losing while on them, or the nutrition your body needs to actually use the medication well.
At Young Naturopathic Center in Los Gatos, every GLP-1 patient gets a VO2 max test. That’s how we figure out your metabolic baseline, and how we build the aftercare when you’re ready to taper off.
If you’re using GLP-1s short-term, you need to know what you should be eating.

I get this question A LOT: Do I have to be on GLP-1s forever?
My answer: it really depends.
Some patients use GLP-1s for a short-term reset after a rough patch. For that, the plan is typically: eat well, sleep better, get your lifestyle back on track, and taper off. Done.
Though, some patients have genetics, hormones, or underlying conditions that make long-term use a smart option. And that’s okay too.
You wouldn’t stop blood pressure medication just because your numbers improved. The same rules apply here.
At Young Naturopathic Center in Los Gatos, we figure out which category you’re in before we prescribe anything. Book a free consult with our patient care team through the link in bio.

What are GLP-1s *ACTUALLY* doing to my body?
We’re here to tell you 👇
GLP-1s are incretin hormones. Simply put, natural hormones your body releases when you eat.
Semaglutide, tirzepatide, Ozempic, Wegovy... All mimic a hormone your body already makes. They act on your stomach, your small intestine, and your brain. It is NOT an appetite suppressant. Instead, it corrects hunger signals your body is misreading.
If you’re in Los Gatos or anywhere in the Bay Area and you’ve been curious about whether a GLP-1 is right for you, the answer starts with a full workup, not a prescription.
