Obituary for Jesse Ellis Weakley | Carey & Son Funeral Home Celebrate the life of Jesse Weakley and join others in sharing memories, stories, and condolences.

The Loop Barber Shop family lost a legend.

Jesse wasn’t just a former owner — he was part of the soul of this place. After returning home as a decorated Vietnam combat veteran, he began working at The Loop Barbershop while attending Watterson College at night to earn his business degree. He eventually became the owner, and for 35 years he greeted every person who walked through the door with a warm smile and a familiar hello.

He gave Chad his very first haircut as a baby, cut hair for generations of Louisville families, and created a space where everyone felt known. Jesse had a gift for remembering names, stories, and faces — the kind of barber who made you feel like you belonged the moment you stepped inside.

He sold the shop to Leroy in 2006 retiring to enjoy fishing and golf. Chad bought it in 2020… but Jesse’s presence never left. The way we welcome people, the way we treat folks like family, the way the Loop feels like home — that all started with him.

Louisville lost a good man. We’ll carry his legacy forward every single day in the Loop.
