I wanted to share a few dos and don’t about post op lymphatic drainage. I’m seeing a lot of people develop fibrosis weeks after surgery. Some of these can be avoided by doing some simple things. I’m going to be posting a few videos over the next few weeks talking about some of the ways that manual lymphatic drainage can be done safely and educating on the things that should and should not be done.
Do’s
1. Wear your faja and foams. The foams especially in the beginning are you’re best friends to help against developing fibrosis.
2. Drink plenty of fluids. You want to keep hydrated and to excrete as much fluid as you can.
3. Get manual lymph drainage: by a licensed massage therapist or esthetician that has taken training in lymphatic drainage and can prove that they have the training. There are a lot of people claiming to be able to perform this service whom have never taken the certifications and have no knowledge of how the lymphatic system works. This is a huge detriment to your healing process and can set your goals back not too mention be costly to repair damage that is done.
4. Get up and move. Walking helps stimulate the lymphatic system.
5. Get adequate rest. Your body heals itself during rest it’s one of the most important things.
6. Be patient and trust the process. Not every one sees results at the same time. Your journey is your journey.
Don’ts
1. Do not forget to wear your compression garments for the allotted time your surgeon recommends.
2. Do not get cavitation, skin tightening or any other of those types of services until you’re at least 6-8 wks post op. Getting those services causes more inflammation which causes you to swell more and to develop fibrosis.
3. Do not work out other than walking before you are 6-8wks post op. Your body needs that time to heal and reduce inflammation.
Need a quick tune up, slight muscle aches or just want to relax for a short while. Starting July 1st Mondays are walk-in appointments only from 1pm-5pm 30min sessions!
