Yesterday, our incredible talented team stepped away from behind the chair for two hours to immerse themselves in a new color line — studying the science, the formulation, and the possibilities. Cleaner ingredients. Softer results. More vibrancy. Longer-lasting wear. More options for our guests. And it is really cool.

But what inspires me most?
Watching 18 women have passion for what they do and have the desire to know the information to best serve their clients. Thank you, DHS team, for investing your time — both work time and personal time— to elevate your craft and serve your guests better. Because when we know better, we do better. 💕

💕 Gratitude isn’t about having everything; it’s about noticing the beauty in what you do have. The people who love you. The roof over your head. The small moments of joy that sneak into your day. 👩🏼‍🦳 on gray hair. This topic makes my heart flutter (and my stomach drop) as I enter my own relationship with MY gray hair. Over the years, I have take several extensive certifications on formulation and gray COVERAGE. But in the last decade~ I have also fell in love with GRAY BLENDING (or sometimes just Gray Integrating).

While, I am loving the “Aging with Confidence” and “Aging Gracefully” and “Empowered Aging” eras…. rocking those silver strands just adds years to our appearance. So how can we mask the gray- give a more youthful look to ourselves- without being at the salon every 3 weeks?!?

It’s that time of year again- DHS had our annual Galentine’s Day Event. I am always in awe of the amount of people who come through our doors on this day. But even more in awe of our team- and putting together such a fun event. We get to celebrate our gal pals and women relationships every day in the salon- but this special day makes those relationships shine even more. Thank you to my amazing talented coworkers for bringing your skill set and passion of beauty into our salon, thank you to our guests who trust us to elevate their natural beauty, and thank you to our supportive community for choosing to spend your evening with us.

This date has been planned bestie for a year! I cannot wait to see Part 2 tonight! Who is going?

✨ THIRTEEN YEARS ago…. I stepped away from my job at the bank and I never looked back.

Doing hair was not on my radar. I never thought it was what I was going to do. I helped for years at the front desk, cleaning and decorating the salon, taking on marketing tasks, and doing an updo or 2 on some friends. But in November of 2012- I quit my job and helped move our salon from 318 E Commercial to 316. Right across the alley. I started beauty school that January and I love every day of what I get to do. 💕

Thank you to my guests who have trusted me from the beginning, to those who have joined in along the way, and to those who will one day sit in my chair. Thank you to the stylists who have trusted me in leading them and educating them. It is a privilege that I cannot explain. I love watching your life change and your career soar.

I love this career because it is ever changing and evolving. Trends change, people change, the way people shop changes… and being a part of that is heartwarming. I am in the people business- the relationship business and it is bonus I get to do hair too! 🥰

Obsessed when old methods and trends are reimagined, modified, and leveled up for us to enjoy again. 💕

So you may know I am a mom of 2 boys (Elliot, 6 and Dean, 2). Some of you may know I don’t just work behind the chair but I take pride in nurturing the next generation of stylists. And these two jobs are my greatest joys and toughest jobs. I am always strategically thinking on how to show up for them and how to support them in achieving their goals but also growing as people.

And as I prepared my son for his big fundraiser of the year- I realized I am handling him the way I like to work with our team at DHS. And creating good, successful, hardworking adults sometimes starts at the foundations of something as simple as a school fundraiser when you are six.

> First, we sat down and discussed the WHY? Why do we want to participate in this fundraiser. Who is benefiting? Elliot won most sold last year and his goal was to win that again. And the why is because we care for our school to have fun things like field trips and mother son events and pizza days.

> Then, we discussed OUR GOAL- our goal is not always the same as everyone else’s. But our goal is important to keep us motivated. And an ATTAINABLE but CHALLENGING goal. He originally said 1 million. And while that sounds amazing- it sets us up for defeat. So we said we would be proud if we sold 75 which is 12 more than we did last year. Our HOLY COW GOAL is 100. We are not allowed to beat ourselves up if we do not get there but a number that kept us even more in tune to our actions.

> And… we created a plan. Who are we going to ask? How are we going to ask them? What is our script? What are all the details- due dates, money, pen, envelope to collect?

> Finally, we went to work. All the beautiful plans don’t get you to your goal- they just give the shortest path and a guide when it seems easier to give up.

> Yesterday, he went door to door in our neighborhood and collected 13, we cold called all our family and got another 45, and then we created a video to put on Facebook. And because we show up for our people and our community- OUR PEOPLE SHOWED UP BIG! And he went to school today with a big smile knowing he sold 92 cheeseballs. (With a week left of until our deadline)
