Let’s deep dive into all things hair policies!
You may have noticed that your stylist has recently been implementing some new policies or rules. I’m going to break down what you may be encountering and the “why” behind these policies to better help you, the client understand what is going on in the salons.

Here’s a few Policies I’ve seen being implemented in the beauty industry.

1. 24hr or 48hr cancellation notice, this is one of the more common policies. Stylists are asking that you give them an appropriate amount of notice if you know that you cannot make your appointment so that they may be able to fill that time with another appointment. Failure to do so may result in a fee of some sort. Why? Might you ask. If there is no one in our chair, we are not making money, this just allows us time to fill that gap with another service that allows us to make the money we were expecting to make that day.
2. No show policy, you would be shocked at how many people schedule an appointment, get 2-3 appointment reminders and still don’t show up to their appointment, no text or NOTHING. Take me for example, If I’m at work, I have gotten a sitter for my son, gotten both him and myself ready, dropped him off across town, made it to work with my lunch that I prepared at home and I have started setting up everything needed for this 4 hour appointment… now I have no time to fill that spot with another appointment, that is time and money lost. There is nothing more aggravating and quite frankly disrespectful than a no show appointment. Failure to notify your stylist could result in a fee of the full amount of the appointment missed.
3. Paying a deposit. Instead of enforcing a cancellation and no show policy, some stylists have opted for the deposit method. Upon booking a future appointment, you may be asked to pay a deposit in order to book. If you make the appointment then that money is used towards that appointment. Failure to appear to your appointment or give an appropriate amount of notice results in the stylist keeping the deposit and you having to repay another deposit to book another appointment.
These are just a few of some of the policies that are being implemented by most stylists or others in the beauty industry. What we do is a career, it is our lively hood. We do not get paid hourly, or by salary, like other careers, so policies like these are crucial to help us stay afloat and stay in business.

What if your hairstylist made a questionable choice with their own hair? Would you trust them less with yours?

This is a PSA
When searching for a new stylist, and they say they’re a “Specialist” 95.5% of the time that is a self proclaimed title. They more than likely do not have a certification in said “specialty”

What kind of client are you?
Are you the prepared client that comes with photos? Or are you the client that sits in the chair and says “do whatever you want?”
