It is with great joy that I get to announce my most exciting order yet! One of my most loyal customers had placed this incredible order that she is donating to a wonderful non-profit organization called Gracious Hope Tanzania. This organization does alot of things for people in need in their community. Their mission statement is as follows, "Improving the quality of life for children, young adults, and women who have been affected by abuse, violence, and poor living conditions."

They focus on matters such as childcare and early education, sexual health & family planning, community financial management, teaching young women and girls financial management and marketable skills as well as providing essential resources to school children. The list goes on when it comes to their reach and involvement. One of their projects teaches young girls and women how to sew their own sanitary pads, which of course I think is wonderful!

Im so excited to share this organization and to know that LeakWeek EcoPads are being sent off to such an amazing cause! We often take for granted how readily available menstrual hygiene products are here in the states... but in some countries there is no access to such "luxuries" as sanitary pads.

Hi everyone! I know I've shared some information on this topic before, but I wanted to bring it up again after having recently purchased some disposable Kotex pads. So just the other day my bf's daughter needed some pads dropped off to her at her gradeschool. In the past I tried to get her turned on to cloth pads and although she used them briefly in the beginning, she decided they just weren't working for her at school, which I can totally understand. So we set out to pick up the disposable pads that she generally uses. I got to examining the box, it's been a long time since I've purchased pads, so I was curious what was written on the packaging. I noticed that the pads are advertised as having "No harsh ingredients" as stated on the front of the packaging. I thought, well that's great at least she is using these... but then I took a look at the ingredients list, which to my surprise was quite long. I started reading, some of the ingredients I could not even pronounce, like Diethylhexyl Sodium Sulfocuccinate. The first couple ingredients were synthetic materials like polypropylene, polyethylene. About half way through the list, I start seeing ingredients like pigment red, blue, black & yellow, all with a number after it. I guess, to see the least, I was just shocked that everything I was reading would be in a pad that is said to contain no harsh ingredients. But as it turns out, studies are showing that even disposable pads labeled as having "No harsh ingredients" are in fact being found to contain toxic chemicals.

"In a series of lab analyses commissioned between 2020 and 2022 by the consumer watchdog site Mamavation and Environmental Health News, 48% of sanitary pads, incontinence pads, and panty liners tested were found to contain PFAS"...."in one of the analyses, out of the 22 products that tested positive for PFAS, 13 of them were advertised as ‘organic,’ ‘natural,’ ‘non-toxic,’ ‘sustainable,’ or using ‘no harmful chemicals.’"

These manufacturing chemicals have been linked by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to a range of health ills, including: decreased fertility, high blood pressure in pregnant people, increased risk of certain cancers, developmental delays and low birthweight in children, hormonal disruption, high cholesterol, reduced effectiveness of the immune system"

Honestly, I feel angered by this. I don't understand why alot of the things found in these pads even need to be in there. Not to mention these PFAS manufacturing chemicals. Here is the list of ingredients that are in the "No harsh ingredients" Kotex pads.
