The longest part of a GG consultation, the part that entails sooo many questions, is about products used at home.

It actually cracks me up. Most people breeze through the part where I inform them that we use a sharp scalpel across your ENTIRE face, 2-3 times. That’s a simple “ okay” response from most.

Then, when we get into the home regimen discussion . They suddenly sit up straighter, proud of their choices. ( The most common product responses people are proud of)” I use  Mario Badescu, La Mer, Estée Lauder 🤦🏻‍♀️, Lancôme.”
These responses usually come from ladies starting to become interested in serious skin care and have never tried anything that wasn’t over the counter. They normally have the thought process, “If you pay more it must be better.”

THEN, we have the group that’s been in the scene for awhile and respond with.. “I use, SkinCeuticals ( $180 on ⬆️), SkinMedica ($295 ⬆️), Obagi ($150⬆️),
Alastin Skincare ($200⬆️), ZO Skin Health ($80-250⬆️). $$$ 🤦🏻‍♀️

Now, when they hear me say, “ No, no, no, and NO” to all of the above, some get sassy because they spend more on their home products than what most of our facials cost 😳, and can’t understand how that’s incorrect.

So, when I started out in this industry 30 plus years ago, skincare looked very different. Patients would often come back after a chemical peel disappointed if they didn’t peel heavily enough. It wasn’t uncommon to hear someone proudly say they had just had a peel or bought multiple tubes of Retin-A and were using it as often as possible. The mindset was simple: the more irritation, the better the result. Unfortunately, that often led to damaged skin barriers, chronic inflammation, and the “leathery” skin appearance that was once mistakenly associated with healthy, sun-resistant skin.
