I was supposed to leave work after I finished my last client, but my manager asked me if I could take one more person for a dry curly cut. I said, “Yeah, why not?” Not knowing that this appointment was going to be just as much of a blessing to me.

Sometimes, even as adults, we have to remind ourselves how important it is to teach our children that their hair is BEAUTIFUL. Especially when they’re going through things with their hair or appearance that even we, as adults, would have a hard time dealing with.

But to see so much confidence in such a young girl reminded me that there is still so much hope for the next generation of textured hair. ❤️

We just have to be the ones who teach it, nurture it, and remind them to continue loving themselves and their hair through every stage.

Because sometimes it’s more than just a curly cut. Sometimes it’s about making sure the little girl sitting in your chair leaves knowing she is beautiful exactly as she is. 🩷

Y’all, I’ve only tried this on 4 clients so far.

I chose these four very intentionally because they’ve all been wearing their natural hair consistently for the last 6 months without adding any hair. Their textures and porosities were similar, and I wanted to see what would happen if I switched up just two products in their routine based on what their hair needed that appointment.

What got me was that all four of them came back telling me they noticed a difference… and I never asked.

As a stylist, that was confirmation for me.

Sometimes our clients don’t always know exactly what their hair needs, and that’s okay. That’s why they trust us. Our job is to pay attention to what their hair is telling us and make recommendations based on that, not just keep doing the same routine because that’s what we’ve always done.

Now don’t get me wrong… what happens at home matters too.

The reason I picked these four clients is because they’re consistent. They actually do what I recommend between appointments, so I knew I could really see if those product changes made a difference.

One thing I’ve been loving lately is that my consultations have shifted. More people are asking me about healthy hair instead of just asking me how to grow long hair.

I love that.

Because healthy hair doesn’t always mean long hair. Sometimes healthy hair looks like better definition, more volume, less breakage, easier styling, or simply understanding what your hair needs in this season.

So if your routine isn’t giving you the same results it used to, don’t be afraid to ask your stylist if it’s time to switch a few things up. Hair changes… and your routine should be able to change with it.

Just wanted to share that little moment with y’all because it reminded me that education will always matter more than just doing hair. 🩶

I put these pants on to “just try them on,” and next thing I know I’m walking around the house like I got somewhere important to be.

Mind you… I had absolutely NOWHERE to go. 🤣

This little 4’11” cutie was feeling herself, and honestly… I wasn’t about to let the outfit go to waste. 💁🏽‍♀️

Anybody else try on a new outfit just to admire yourself in the mirror for 30 minutes? Be honest. 😂👇🏽

One thing about me… I really connect with my clients.

So when life blesses them with new opportunities and they have to move away, I won’t lie… it makes me a little sad. But more than anything, I’m genuinely happy for them because I always want to see my people win. 🤎

One thing I’ve learned is that not every natural wants an extravagant hairstyle.

Most of my clients want something that’s simple, beautiful, convenient, and fits their everyday life. They want to wake up, fluff their hair, and go. No stress. No spending hours trying to recreate a style.

That’s exactly what I strive to give them.

When you sit in my chair, I’m not just thinking about how your hair will look when you leave. I’m thinking about how it’s going to serve you over the next few weeks. I want your appointment to feel peaceful, intentional, and worth every minute.

Getting messages from first-time clients telling me how much they enjoyed their experience reminds me that I’m walking in my purpose. It’s never just about the hairstyle it’s always about the person wearing it.

Just recapping some moments I never got around to posting… and I had to put y’all on! 😂

We ate at a restaurant inside a hotel in Brooklyn, New York. Don’t ask me the name of the hotel because I honestly forgot. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Normally, I don’t get excited about hotel restaurants because they’re usually just… okay.

But THIS one? Whew. It completely changed my mind.

I wasn’t even that hungry, and somehow this ended up being some of the best food I’ve ever had. The customer service was top tier, every single person at our table ordered something different, and every plate was amazing. They even surprised us with a complimentary dessert, which was the perfect ending.

Now listen… you’re definitely going to spend a little money, but in my opinion, it was absolutely worth it.

I’m just cleaning out my camera roll and sharing some gems I never posted. If you’re ever in Brooklyn, put this spot on your list. I promise, you won’t regret it! 🍽️

I know a lot of people say they miss the “old school salon days,” and I get the nostalgia.

But if I’m being honest… there are a few things I don’t miss.

I don’t miss leaving the shampoo bowl with a soaking wet back.

I don’t miss conversations happening over my head like I wasn’t even sitting there.

And I definitely don’t miss spending an entire day in the salon for one service.

To me, the modern salon experience should feel different.

When you book an appointment, those 90 minutes (or however long your service takes) should be intentional. You should feel seen, heard, educated, and cared for not rushed, but also not forgotten.

You’re investing in more than your hair. You’re investing in an experience.

A salon visit should feel like a mini spa where you can relax, reset, and leave feeling better than when you walked in.

Fine-density naturals, can we have a conversation? 🤎

For years, I believed thicker hair was automatically prettier. Every time I scrolled social media, I compared my hair to someone else’s and wondered why mine wasn’t as full.

Then I realized something…

Density isn’t a measure of beauty. It’s just a characteristic of your hair.

Fine-density hair isn’t “bad hair.” It simply needs a different approach. Different products. Different techniques. Different expectations.

The moment I stopped trying to make my hair look like someone else’s, I finally learned how to make my hair thrive.

Question: Have you ever wished your natural hair had a different density? Be honest I want to know.

The moment someone says natural hair is “overhyped” or “too much work,” I can’t help but wonder how much of that opinion was learned.

For so many years, textured hair was labeled as difficult, unprofessional, messy, or something that needed to be changed. So now that more people are embracing their curls, coils, kinks, and texture, it can feel uncomfortable to those who were taught otherwise.

Here’s the thing: natural hair isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. Wearing a wig is okay. Wearing a silk press is okay. Relaxing your hair is okay. Natural hair is okay too.

What isn’t okay is tearing down someone else’s choice.

When we leave negative comments about natural hair, we don’t always realize who is reading them. It could be a little girl learning to love her curls, a woman starting her healthy hair journey, or someone finally finding confidence in the hair that grows from their scalp.

Every texture is different.
Every density is different.
Every head of hair is different.

And that’s what makes it beautiful.

I’d be lying if I said every ending was easy. Some chapters close quietly, while others teach you lessons you’ll carry for the rest of your life.

One thing I’ve learned is that not every ending is a loss. Sometimes it’s God making room for peace, growth, alignment, and the next thing He has for you.

And here’s another lesson: people are going to talk. Some will look at you differently. Some will assume they know the story or why things changed. That’s okay. You don’t have to explain every season of your life to everyone.

Protect your peace. Learn the lesson. Keep growing. The people and opportunities meant for you will meet you in the right season. 🤍

Another moment from Texture on Set that I never shared. 🤍

This is Tiffany, one of Naheemah's mentees and an incredibly talented artist. She had the opportunity to be on stage creating an editorial hairstyle, so while everyone else was able to sit and take in every class and presentation, she was busy doing the work.

She shared that she didn’t get to catch everything because she was working the show. But what she did hear was exactly what she needed.

When Chuck Amos got on stage and shared his story, something clicked. It reminded her that she was in the right place, at the right time, doing exactly what she was supposed to be doing.

That conversation stayed with me because sometimes we’re so focused on not seeing everything that we miss the fact that God gave us exactly what we needed in that moment.

Not every lesson comes from sitting in every class. Sometimes it comes from one conversation, one speaker, one opportunity, or one moment that shifts your perspective.

Reflect on what God has already placed in front of you. Pay attention to the moments you did experience, because they may be the very thing that carries you into your next season.
