I recently had a new client… new to me, new to massage therapy, and new to her cancer diagnosis.

I needed to explain how I could help her, while assuring her safety and comfort through her sessions with me.

This is how I explained the service I can provide her:
“Thank you for reaching out. I would love to support you as you heal.

Each massage therapy session I provide is guided with an understanding of healthy lymphatic flow and gentle, intentional techniques that support the body without creating unnecessary stress.

I specialize in working with clients like you affected by breast cancer, including those preparing for or recovering from surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Sessions are approached with careful consideration for skin sensitivity, tissue fragility, scar tissue management, and the unique healing needs that often accompany treatment and recovery.

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specific therapeutic protocol that may be appropriate for post-operative swelling, lymphedema prevention or management, and supporting the body’s natural fluid movement after surgery or treatment. I also offer pre- and post-operative protocols for clients undergoing oncology procedures, plastic surgery, and joint replacements.

Most often, I blend traditional massage therapy techniques with Manual Lymph Drainage to support the whole body. This integrative approach allows sessions to address lymphatic health while also promoting relaxation, improving circulation, easing muscular tension, and supporting the body’s overall healing process.”
