Not sure exactly what a gloss is or why you may want/need one? First let’s look at what glosses are-
Glosses
👻 leave your hair shiny and, well, glossy!
👻 manipulate hair by either enhancing, neutralizing or deepening color
👻 are the same as a glaze or a toner, just different verbiage
👻 are demi-permanent and last 6-8 weeks before needing to be refreshed

Why you might want one
👻 you got a blonding service done and the raw lift from the lightener isn’t your jam
👻 you need a refresh of your previous color
👻 you want to add glossiness and shine to your hair. Glosses don’t need to change/alter the tone of your hair, they can simply be clear to add that oomph!
👻 you want to go a bit darker or change up your look a bit but don’t want a big commitment
👻 you’re feeling really brassy and want to cool the tone down
👻 you feel like warming your hair up a bit
👻 you want to blend your grays
And so many more!

What glosses won’t do
👻 make your hair lighter
👻 100% cover grays (demi-permanent color is a great way to blend grays, but it’s almost like putting tights on VS leggings, they will still show through but they will be less noticeable)
👻 give you a harsh line as your hair grows out (some gray blending CAN have a line as it grows, but it’s not as intense)

My usual golden blondie wanted to amp it up for fall by using 9G, 9AA and 8C to create this beautiful strawberry blonde! A hint of copper without the commitment!

What’s her maintenance like?
🔮 she’s been loving the rooted look so in the next 8-10 weeks we’ll do a face frame blonding session to keep it fresh and intentional. Once her root is over 2-4”, we’ll do a partial to bring it back up again
🔮 washing in cooler water and using a color safe shampoo to extend the life of her gloss
🔮 4-6 glossing appointments to refresh the gloss

This guest hadn’t been in since January and told me to do whatever I wanted so I broke up her line of demarcation from her previous blonding service and used 7 to hand paint and give her a very soft and blended look for fall!

What’s her maintenance like?
The blend and softness means I won’t need to see her for 4-6 months except for a gloss every 10 weeks or so since she only washes her hair about 1-2x a week!

From lived-in blonde to lived-in bronde!

We started by refreshing her money piece, then weaved through the hair to bring in lots of dimension and finishing with a root melt and gloss toned with 8WG, 8GG, 8C, 8VRo and a cap of 7GB

What’s the maintenance like? Gloss every 6-10 weeks but she won’t need more than that for at least 4 months!

I have had those moments when I’M the client and sheer panic sets in once I see my hair after it’s glossed and before it’s dried, thinking “ohhhhh nooooo that’s dark.” But once it’s dried, it’s always so much lighter and I couldn’t be happier!

Wet hair can look 1-2 levels darker than it really is. Here is a visual from one of my lovely clients to demonstrate how different it is!
