For this particular client, she was solely using lotion as a moisturizer and wanted to get on a simple routine. In this case, I like to start off with three products: a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. Cleanser is going to remove any dirt, sweat, debris, or leftover products off of the face. A moisturizer will hydrate, moisturize, and strengthen the skin barrier. And most importantly, an SPF will protect the skin from the UV rays and sun damage.

Once my client is consistent with their skincare routine, we can begin to add in additional products that will help support them on their skincare journey such as toners, exfoliants, serums, etc.

When it comes to a skincare regimen, you will see the most results when you are consistent. I like to ask my clients how many products in their routine they would feel comfortable with. If they don’t have a routine at all and I’m recommending 6 products, it’s highly likely that they won’t follow the routine. In this case, I prefer to recommend products that have multiple purposes while also targeting their concerns.

After a corrective facial, your aftercare matters just as much as the treatment itself.

Here are 3 things I want you to prioritize after your facial:

1️⃣ Stay hydrated 💧
Drink plenty of water to support your body’s normal hydration and recovery processes. It’s possible for toxins to be released during a facial and hydration helps to flush them out.

2️⃣ Avoid excessive sweating 🥵
Avoid intense workouts, saunas, steam, and anything that causes heavy sweating immediately after your facial. Heat and sweat can contribute to irritation, especially when your skin has just been professionally exfoliated.

3️⃣ Keep bacteria away 🦠
Avoid touching or picking your face, dirty pillowcases, and anything else that can introduce unnecessary bacteria to freshly treated skin. Keep your hands, phone, and anything touching your face clean.

4️⃣ Keep your routine gentle 🧴
Skip harsh exfoliants, scrubs, retinol, and other strong actives for 3-5 days. Your skin has already received professional exfoliation and stimulation. Don’t forget to moisturize and use SPF!
