Sunny summer days and dull, faded, brassy hair? The biggest culprit here is summer sun ☀️and increased oxidation🫧. To combat these factors, try out these solutions:
As with my Stressed Summer Tresses post, Prevent and Protect is number one! Luckily, wearing a hat👒 is a super cute and very effective way to do so! Make sure you don’t forget about your ends and tuck them under the hat too!
☀️Protecting your hair from UV rays is also key so products like Scalp & Hair Mist with spf30, Protective Hair Veil, and N°.3 (see my post-Stressed Summer Tresses for how to use them).
☀️Most blondes already know the benefits of purple shampoo in banishing brass but Blondage and N°.4P are my favorites. Blondage also offers a purple mask to get rid of any remaining brass. *It’s important to not that purple toning products cannot lighten hair and only work on hair that is lightened enough. **Purple shampoo does not take the place of regular cleansing shampoo.
💖If you’re looking for the most effective and long-term color correction, a salon service such as a gloss or even an additional blonding service may be necessary. A gloss is a relatively quick upkeep service between blonding sessions that last 4-6 weeks. This conditioning gloss is formulated to your specific hair so your resulting shade of blonde is uniquely customized and super shiny. Blonde naturally darkens as time goes on and if there is any natural pigment left in the hair, it will naturally oxidize back to the brassy tone when combined with pollutants in the air and minerals in tap water.

The best summer days always involve dips in the pool🏊🏼‍♀️ and splashing in the waves🌊 at the beach but that can really take a toll on your tresses. Salt water and chlorine coupled with UV rays and extreme heat can severely damage and dry out your hair so I’ve compiled some solutions!
🔅Best practice is to Protect and Prevent! Safeguard your strands from the sun with Sunbum and Aveda and use Olaplex to nourish while preventing absorption of salt and chlorine. Sunbum has a fantastic spray for hair and scalp with SPF 30 for those that have fine hair with a visible scalp.
🔅Aveda has an amazing Protective Hair Veil (that also smells incredible) with UV filters to shield your hair from prolonged exposure to the sun.
Another way to protect your tresses is to dampen your hair with water before you hit the beach or pool and then apply Olaplex’s No. 3 so that your hair absorbs this strengthening treatment instead of chlorinated pool water or salty sea water. Rinse it out after your day in the sun and you get softer, smoother strands- two for one! *In a pinch, you can swap No. 3 for conditioner.
🔅The next step is to Remove and Replace! Deep clean the harsh chemicals out of your hair with a clarifying shampoo. I recommend Paul Mitchell’s Shampoo Three which is specifically formulated for removing chlorine. Olaplex’s shampoo No. 4C will deep clean and soften too!
Once your hair is squeaky clean, you’ll need to replenish nutrients and moisture with a treatment and mask. I love Redken’s Lamellar treatment which leaves hair soooo shiny and Olaplex’s mask is a must-have for rough, dry hair.

So many times it’s not about how *much* blonde is added but *where* it is placed as you can see in this gorgeous refresh for 💛

If these hot and humid summer days🥵 have you more occupied with frizz than fun, I have some solutions to take you from frizzy to flawless💎- a quick fix (“fix it now” products) and a service solution (more time, more correction).
⭐️First up is Instant Deflate from Redken’s Frizz Dismiss line. This should look familiar (the bottle used to be gold) to all of my long-time clients as this is my go-to for every hair type for a plethora of reasons, namely hydration, heat protection, frizz control, and super smooth, shiny hair.
⭐️Next is AG’s Frizzproof hair spray. This hairspray absolutely is “frizzproof”! It has lived up to its name on many long, humid wedding days! For everyday, it’s also best to keep your hands out of your hair (sorry hair flippers!) since the extra movement can agitate the cuticle and encourage frizz.
⭐️For ultimate frizz defense, apply Instant Deflate to clean, damp hair and style as usual. Add a few pumps from the ear down to the ends to seal your hair cuticle then spray your final style with Frizzproof.

I’ve had a completely wonderful summer with my little one and I’m excited to announce that I’ll be back in the salon this Wednesday! As of right now I’m back Tuesday & Wednesday 3-9pm and Saturdays 10-4pm.
