We would like to extend our condolences to the family of retired K9 Officer Yukon who crossed the rainbow bridge today. Officer Yukon and his handler Sgt Tobias were partners at the Meridian Township Police from 2013 to 2020 and played an essential role in not only the apprehension of countless suspects and wanted criminals but in locating several missing persons and kids as well as victims of mental health ailments. The Ingham county Special Response Team even made Yukon an asset on the tactical team after seeing his capabilities. In addition, Sgt Tobias was constantly out in the community with Yukon who was beloved by all who met him whether it was in the schools or special events around Meridian Township.

When K9 Aiko began his career at Bath, Sgt Tobias was a great mentor for Officer Lapham as he developed the K9 program into what it is today. Officer Lapham routinely relied on Sgt Tobias's vast knowledge of K9 handling and Yukon's example of how a dog should work. The K9 community is very close-knit and Yukon was absolutely happy to be involved.

Yukon was able to spend a few years in retirement guarding his home and his family as well as making sure no one carried the living room couch away.

The bond between K9 and handler cannot be described. We're with these dogs more than our families and can rely on them to protect us and our communities at any cost.

You'll be missed Yukon. You're a very good boy.
