There are several forms used in skincare, and they each have different strengths, stability, and skin compatibility.

The form that gets the most attention is L-ascorbic acid.

Not all bakuchiol is created equal.

Most people assume that if two products say “bakuchiol” on the label, they’re essentially the same.

They’re not.

There are two common ways bakuchiol is used in skincare.

One is crude Babchi (Bakuchi) oil, a natural plant oil that contains bakuchiol along with many other naturally occurring compounds from the plant.

The other is 99% pure bakuchiol, where the active ingredient has been carefully isolated and purified for consistency and precision.

Neither approach is inherently “right” or “wrong.”

When I formulated Moonlight & Wolf, I chose 99% pure bakuchiol because I wanted complete control over the formula.

It allowed me to create a 2% clinical-strength concentration, pair it with THD Vitamin C and nourishing botanical oils, and deliver a product that’s both effective and exceptionally gentle.

Thoughtful formulation isn’t just about what’s on the ingredient list.

It’s about choosing the right ingredients, in the right form, at the right concentration, so they work beautifully together.

As a formulator, that’s rarely how I make decisions.

When I created Moonlight & Wolf, I wasn’t chasing the highest percentage just so I could put a bigger number on the label.

I was building a formula that could deliver meaningful results while avoiding the burning, peeling, and irritation that cause so many people to give up on traditional retinol.

That’s why I believe understanding how a product was formulated is often more valuable than simply knowing what ingredient is inside.

I thought I was building a bath and body company.
