Jennifer came in, and we got to work!
Clarifying first to reset the hair, then we built her routine around what her curls actually needed. Maria Nila Healium for moisture, Trybe hydrating butter masque for the treatment, and set her curls with MN cream heat spray, styling mousse, Trybe texture gel, and a hover diffuse.
Her curls have so much definition and bounce, and that’s what happens when the products are actually doing their job.If your curls have been feeling off lately, it might just be time to reassess your routine. That’s what I’m here for! 💚
Did you know that your hair felt the season change before you did?
When life gets busy, we shift into easy mode, and I get it, but “low maintenance” and “no maintenance” are two very different things. That’s usually where the summer damage starts.
You can still put your hair up and keep it simple; you just have to be a little more intentional about it. Your ends will thank you when September comes. 🌿

Taking a few days to reset. 🏝️ See you soon!🤍
Some of my favorite parts of the day don’t happen during the haircut.
They happen in the little moments around the salon, coffee refills between clients, shiny hair catching the light, quiet focus while styling, and the kind of conversations that make the whole appointment feel easy.
Running a salon is a lot of moving pieces, but these small moments are the ones that remind me why I love this work so much.

Morgan has been on her curly journey for a while, but somewhere along the way, she felt like her hair stopped growing and felt disconnected. Too many layers through the sides had pushed all of her length to the back, where she couldn’t even see it anymore.
The goal for this appointment? Great questions, we wanted to keep her length, soften the layers, and start setting her up to grow the sides back out while still keeping that lift and height on top.
Morgan and I also had a conversation about the difference between hydration and moisture, which can easily be thought of as the same thing. They’re not the same thing. Hydration is water. Moisture is the product that helps hold that hydration in place.
When we overload the hair with moisturizing products without properly cleansing, they can build up and actually block the hair from absorbing water. That’s called moisture fatigue, and it can make hair feel dry and brittle even though we’ve been trying to “hydrate” it.
Sometimes the answer isn’t more product, it’s a good clarification and letting the hair start accepting water again.

I’ve been doing this longer than you think. 🥹
I was the little girl obsessed with my My Size Barbie… and yes, I definitely got in trouble for cutting a few Barbie’s hair along the way!! 😂
Turns out I just needed real people to practice on.
Same curiosity. Same attention to detail. Just a little more experience behind it now. 🪴

It’s not the brushing that is the issue; it’s the how and the when. Brushing when the hair is dry will break up curl clumps and any cast formed by our products. Brushing when the hair is wet and conditioned helps to make sure the product is distributed evenly, and it can help define the curls. Brushing isn’t the enemy, Dry brishing is!
Curly hair is not automatically dry; it is just more prone to showing signs of being dry quicker than straight hair. Due to the shape of curls, natural oils have a harder time moving down the shaft of the hair to moisturize it. That just means we need to intentionally hydrate our curls. When curls are properly cleansed, condtioned and hydrated, they feel soft and balanced. If our curls are feeling dry, that means something is off in our routine, not that our curls are “just like that”.
Oil doesn’t hydrate hair. It seals what’s already there. So if hair is frizzy because it’s dry or coated in buildup, adding oil just traps the problem. A lot of frizz actually comes from a lack of water in the hair or from not cleansing enough. Once hair is hydrated and clean, a small amount of oil or serum can help smooth and seal. But oil alone isn’t the fix.

Bring the photos. Always bring the photos. 🤍
They’re one of the best ways to make sure we’re speaking the same language. But here’s the key: think of them as inspiration, not a blueprint.
Two people can love the same photo for completely different reasons. The lift. The shape. The elongation. The volume at the root. My job is to look a little deeper and figure out what you are actually drawn to, and then create something that works for your hair.
Photos guide the conversation. They don’t replace it. 🌿
