Wanting to help everyone embrace their natural texture and color, she decided to start her first independent business with a mission to help everyone who sits in her chair with a unique and custom experience, leaving feeling transformed and educated on their new hairstyle. She keeps up with current trends and techniques to keep bringing new and exclusive styles to her clients. With certifications with major companies and academies including Brazilian Blowout, OLAPLEX, DevaCurl and RËZO Academy. Also, annually attending industry conferences and on going education. She prides herself to being an inclusive stylist providing services to anyone, men, women and especially children! Alyssa Cuts Curls is located centrally in McAllen, TX and also travels across the RGV to South Padre Island, TX. Her private studio offers one-on-one sessions, so you have complete privacy and space to relax and freedom to express your opinions. Double booking (2 clients at the same appointment) is available upon request. Every service will begin with a thorough consultation. We will discuss your hair goals, concerns and hair history as well. Then the service will be completed with instructions for styling, product recommendations and maintenance. The studio and implements are sanitized between every client, an air purifier is in place to keep air borne germs away. Complementary beverages and sweets are provided for every guest.

Just like cotton, wool, satin, and silk have different qualities and behave differently, so does our hair. And your curl pattern is only one small part of the picture.
When I look at your hair, I’m also looking at:
• Strand thickness — Are your individual strands fine, medium, or coarse/thick?
• Density — How much hair is actually growing on your scalp?
• Porosity — How easily does your hair absorb and lose moisture?
• Texture/feel — Does it feel soft, silky, rough, coarse, or wiry?
• Curl pattern — Is it straight, wavy, curly, coily—or a combination?
This is why two people can both have “3B curls” and have completely different experiences with their hair. One may have fine, high-density, lower-porosity hair while the other has coarse, lower-density, higher-porosity hair. They shouldn’t automatically use the same products, techniques, or even receive the same type of haircut.
Instead of getting stuck on “What curl type am I?”, start learning your entire hair fabric.
Once you understand the fabric you’re working with, it becomes much easier to understand what your hair actually needs. 💚
