Check out Otto’s journey from tumor removal and skin graft to hair regrowth. Mass was low grade STS with narrow but clean margins.
Another gait abnormality to keep in the memory bank…gracillus myopathy, over represented in GSD. Unfortunately poor prognosis for good long term function.

This 4 yo MC Shiba Inu presented with a history of a left hindlimb lameness that waxed and waned. Once seen, he was non-weight bearing. Radiographs were taken. A left femoral head and neck bone lesion was noted, both proliferative and lytic in nature. An ultrasound, guided needle aspirate was taken of the bone lesion through a medial approach to the hip. Sample was sent for cytologic analysis and diagnosis was made. See last slide for answer.

***COINS and DOLLARS FOR CHARLIE MEDICAL FUND RAISER***
Meet Charlie, an 8-year-old sweet boy, who was recently returned to our family network, through no fault of his own. Charlie was placed in a foster home while waiting for his forever home. There was an unfortunate scuffle amongst Charlie and the other hounds in the foster home. Charlie got the brunt of the injuries, resulting in a punctured abdomen and several severe lacerations. On Sunday, Charlie had emergency exploratory surgery to repair the punctured abdomen and to stitch all the lacerations. Charlie pulled through the surgery like a champ but has a tough road ahead, but he should pull through as good as new!
The expenses that have been incurred has made a severe impact upon our overall available funds. Charlie’s surgery expenses to-date have been $9,039.
In addition, Charlie will need follow-up care that would include medications and incision checks.
Not only do we want to be able to provide for Charlie, we also will continue our on-going mission of adopting out retired racing greyhounds, who require their own veterinary care (neuters, spays, dentals, medications, etc.)!
We are asking for your help! We never know when medical needs such as this will arise for any of our returned hounds or our incoming hounds. Each of you have been so amazing along the way and we cannot do any of this without your help!
We have established the COINS & DOLLARS FOR CHARLIE MEDICAL FUND RAISER to begin immediately, AND we are committing all our Fall Picnic proceeds from next Saturday, October 14 to this Medical Fund Raiser!
Donations can be made via PayPal to [email protected] OR by check being mailed to P.O. Box 70811, Richmond, VA 23255 (made out to James River Greyhounds) OR by credit card via our online store under Shop>Donation at jamesrivergreyhounds.org.
Every COIN and DOLLAR counts for Charlie and for all of the other hounds that we will continue to help along the way!
THANK ROO on behalf of Charlie and all the retired athletes!
Please feel free to share and cross-post!
