Trust me, I was that girl in high school and college who would do THE MOST extreme color just ONE time and end up paying for it in the long run - whether it was literally all day in a salon getting a full on color correction or punishing myself slowly by letting the ugly fading grow out over time 'til I could stomach the chop. But I'm convinced that a color specialist's arch nemesis is the dreaded, black box dye 😱

In reality it's really not as bad as it seems; it's just breaking down what you're working with. I won't stylist-splain the color side of things - but it's important to seek out a professional when making a change to your hair chemically. Whether you've been coloring your hair at home and looking to switch it up or you had that big "oh s**t!" moment, consultations are your best friend. With a good color consultation, you'll be able to get a realistic idea on what's achievable in one session and what needs to happen over time to protect the integrity of your hair while getting to your dream hair.

Full circle moment for me - I dyed my hair this beautiful, bright red in high school but, unfortunately, had imprints where the color didn't take from the claw clip holding my hair during processing. After trying to hide that nightmare from my mom for days, I ended up spending open to close in the salon (and educating stylist) where I started my apprenticeship to end up in my dream job. I cannot get through the holidays without acknowledging how special Thanksgiving is to me. I enjoy spending so much time with family - celebrating my sister’s and mom’s birthdays, eating all the amazing food that, preferably, I don’t have to cook, and reminiscing on the year Jake and I got engaged.

After having Bo, it put a whole new meaning to a holiday spirited with gratefulness. Jake and I went through hell and high water to have our beautiful family and we are so thankful for what a gift Bo is and the joy he has brought to our lives this past year and a half. While we take this time to appreciate all the wonderful people we have with us and those remembered, I hope you can find a little joy in this throwback pic of our little pumpkin, Bo. I got hit with the term "winterizing" hair the other day and, honestly, I'm not mad at it! My ladies are FAR from boats and sprinkler systems 😂 but there's something about that all over comfy, cozy feeling that makes you want your hair to fit the vibe, amiright?!

When the weather goes cool, I want all the warmth! Jennica is a perfect example of this - her natural hair color is a very cool-toned, deep brown. We like to hype up the dimension in the warmer months by bringing in the lighter blonde but, come Fall, we focus on richening up the overall look and toning her brighter pieces with this gorgeous toffee brown. This is a great way to keep her natural from looking one-dimensional and bringing some warmth to her cooler features.
