The sphenoid also benefits when the sacral/Ilium are aligned as they closely mirror the same effects on the system. They even look similar while the wings of the sphenoid look like the ilium the sella turcica which is the center of the sphenoid looks like the sacrum.

🦋 The Sphenoid: The “Keystone” of the Skull

Did you know one small bone deep inside your skull can influence how your entire body feels?

The sphenoid bone is known as the keystone of the cranium because it connects with every other cranial bone. Shaped like a butterfly, it sits behind the eyes and supports some of the body’s most important structures.

✨ The sphenoid helps support:
🧠 Brain & central nervous system
🦋 Pituitary gland (your master hormone gland)
👁️ Vision & optic nerves
👀 Eye movement
🦷 TMJ & jaw function
⚡ Cranial nerves involved in sensation, facial muscles, swallowing, and more

When the sphenoid loses its natural mobility due to birth compression, trauma, falls, whiplash, dental procedures, chronic stress, or fascial restrictions, the effects may extend far beyond the head.

Common symptoms may include:
💜 Headaches & migraines
💜 TMJ pain or jaw clicking
💜 Sinus pressure
💜 Neck pain
💜 Eye strain or visual fatigue
💜 Dizziness or balance issues
💜 Nervous system dysregulation

🌿 How Myofascial Release Can Help

John F. Barnes Myofascial Release uses gentle, sustained pressure to release fascial restrictions throughout the body. As the fascia surrounding the head, neck, and jaw begins to soften, the sphenoid often has the opportunity to regain more natural mobility.

Many clients report:
✨ Fewer headaches
✨ Easier jaw movement
✨ Deeper breathing
✨ Less neck tension
✨ A greater sense of calm
✨ Improved whole-body alignment

While cranial restrictions are not the cause of every condition, restoring healthy fascial mobility can be an important piece of the healing puzzle.

Healing isn’t about forcing the body to change.
It’s about creating the conditions where the body can heal itself.

Scar tissue is deeper than what you see on the surface. The tensile strength of fascia is 2000 lbs per square inch. Stop fighting and start working with a John Barnes trained Myofascial Release Therapist.

Healing is a journey not an event
And it begins with Myofascial Release

01/02/2026

True healing isn’t instant. It unfolds when the body feels safe enough to soften.

Through gentle, sustained Myofascial Release, the nervous system settles, the fascia begins to open, and the body remembers how to release what it’s been holding.

Slow is not a setback.
It’s how lasting change begins.

As the year comes to a close, the body often asks for more softness, not more effort.

Myofascial Release creates space, ease, and a calmer foundation for the year ahead, one gentle shift at a time.

If your body is ready to release what it’s been holding, this is a beautiful place to begin.

“Carolyn is a kind and compassionate therapist who can work out the kinks without hurting your body, and knows where they originate better than even you do.”

This is what expert-level Myofascial Release looks like:
- listening before forcing,
- understanding before pushing,
- and creating change without overwhelming the nervous system.

If you’re looking for gentle, precise care that actually addresses the source, not just the symptoms, Myofascial Release may be the missing piece.

The holidays often bring extra tension, and the fascia feels it first.

Gentle movement, slower breathing, and mindful pauses help the body shift away from stress and into a state where healing is possible.

A softer season begins within.
