Reminiscing over a few old photos from the 2017 Aveda Catwalk for Water. It was a splash! (4/2/17)

This show is so much fun❣️ I am always so blown away by the level of professionalism and common curtesy between competing salons at this event. It's truly an honor to work for a company that puts so much emphasis on being a good human being. I love being able to say that I use a color line and products that are made with integrity and compassion. I think it makes a difference in the kind of stylist the company attracts.

Here is an old bridesmaids dress that we repurposed for a Water Warrior suit of armor. We used color tubes washed, cut and rolled through the color key for a crimped effect. This tied into the crimps that covered the waves on either side of her hair. Braids down the center of her head and around her hair line made it easy to attach a beautiful head piece of scales. We envisioned a backbone, because every strong warrior has one. We made it visible and worked it into a creature of the water look. The tubes were easier to work with than we thought, so we went on to build an arm piece with scales we cut out. We used the inside of the dress to crest a pant leg underneath the shear fabric that flowed behind her as she walked. The entire dress was lined with color tubes, that made it easy to shape and work with. Each leg was wrapped in a protective, yet wearable, armor.

Our hair color formula was Aveda Full Spectrum 1N with 5 cat.

The base for her skin tone was sandstone tinted moisturizer. We used every bronzer on the list to create shadows. Blue and gold were the focus on her eyes and the scales down her arm and back. We used so many Aveda shadows, blushes and bronzers reflect light and create the skin of a water creature. Tidepool, delphinium, wild indigo, and tons of gypsum gold! Cacao, black orchid, and sterling silk, were our favorite eyeliners. Nutmeg and balsa concealers worked well for heavy contouring. We even went online and ordered previously discontinued products for maximum effect. Using black orchid on the corners of her mouth and agave nectar nourishment lip gloss for a gold glow in the middle created a great ombré effect and brought a sense of strength to her mouth.
This look took months of planning and preparation, done in small increments, involving the whole staff, our families, and friends for support. It's a great fundraiser and we love doing it each year. Thank you Aveda❣️💚
