On the anniversary of the 13th Amendment’s ratification, I commemorate this day in the long march towards freedom and call on my colleagues to continue forward by ending the exception that allows slavery to continue as a punishment for a crime.

Tennessee voters amended the state constitution to officially ban all forms of slavery just last month. Congress must do the same for the U.S. Constitution.

Today, President Joe Biden signed an Executive Order protecting women’s reproductive rights after the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. We remain committed to fighting for a woman's fundamental right to freedom and privacy. This fight isn't over.
