The Father of Studio 2 Hair Additions
When people talk about Studio 2, they usually see the building as it is now: private rooms, quiet hallways, people coming in scared and walking out a little taller. What they do not always see is where it started, and who built the foundation for all of this: Travis Johnson.
Travis did not start out owning a salon. He started as a kid in Johnson’s Barber Shop, cutting hair for twenty‑five cents a head. No fancy title, no backing, just a pair of clippers and a need to work. From there, he did not just “do hair,” he built with it.
In the early 1970s, Travis became an educator for a company called Image, one of the pioneers in hair replacement. He was out there teaching other professionals the craft, long before most people had language for “non‑surgical hair replacement.” While a lot of the industry was still thinking in terms of basic wigs, Travis was already thinking about solutions, fit, and dignity—and quietly preparing to build his own dream.
By 1978, you could find his name on flyers like “Image ’78: Reflections of Success,” where he was featured alongside other leaders in the field. Through the 1980s, as hair systems were growing—in size and in popularity—Travis and his team kept up with every trend and technique. He was not just following the wave; he was helping shape it, one class, one demonstration, and one client at a time.
He went on to partner with a company called Aspasie, where he was both an educator and an owner. That partnership turned into a factory in Haiti, producing hair systems and pieces for clients around the world. At one point, he even ran his own hair school Modern Hair Design here in Memphis, training stylists not just in cutting, but in thinking: about balance, shape, problem‑solving, and the responsibility of holding somebody’s self‑image in your hands. He was building people as much as he was building businesses.
He also owned and operated King’s Den in Memphis, Tennessee. That shop is the direct ancestor of what would become Studio 2. King’s Den gave him a home base, a place to put all that education, factory, and school experience into real, everyday clients who needed more than a standard haircut.
In 1986, Sharon Johnson joined the business, bringing fresh passion and purpose. Together, they pushed Studio 2 into a new era of innovation—expanding beyond a traditional barber shop into a place where men and, eventually, women dealing with medical hair loss could find real options. The work shifted from just cutting hair to truly changing what was possible for people who thought they were out of choices.
Travis is retired now. You will not see him in the day‑to‑day at Studio 2, and you will not catch him in every video or standing behind every chair, but you can feel him in the bones of the place. The reason Studio 2 exists in this building, doing this kind of work with hair replacement and hair additions, is because of what he started with King’s Den and what he spent a lifetime building.
When we call Travis Johnson “the Father of Studio 2,” it is not a cute nickname. It is a literal description of his role in this story: barber, educator, factory owner, school founder, salon owner. He took twenty‑five‑cent haircuts and turned them into a legacy.
And now our team and our clients get to enjoy the salon home he built. Every class we teach, every hair addition we customize, every person who finds non‑surgical hair replacement here instead of giving up on themselves—that is all possible because of the work he did first, for all of us

🌊 Beach Vacation Over? Here's How to Give Your Hair Addition Some TLC
There's nothing better than a beach getaway—sunshine, ocean breezes, and relaxing by the water. But while your vacation may be over, your hair addition may need a little extra attention after spending time in the sun, saltwater, and humidity.
Whether you wear a wig, topper, hair integration system, or extensions, proper after-beach care can help keep your hair looking beautiful and lasting longer.
☀️ What Beach Conditions Do to Hair Additions
Saltwater, chlorine, sunscreen, humidity, and UV exposure can all take a toll on hair additions. You may notice:
✨ Increased dryness
✨ Tangling or matting
✨ Fading color
✨ Loss of shine
✨ Increased frizz
The good news? A little maintenance can make a big difference.
🧴 Step 1: Give It a Gentle Cleanse
After returning from your trip, it's important to remove any salt, chlorine, sunscreen, or product buildup.
Use professional-quality products recommended by your stylist and gently cleanse the hair. Avoid scrubbing or twisting, as this can cause unnecessary tangling.
💧 Step 2: Deep Condition
Beach days can leave hair feeling thirsty. A moisturizing treatment can help restore softness, shine, and manageability.
Pay special attention to the mid-lengths and ends, where dryness tends to occur first.
✨ Step 3: Check for Tangles
Before styling, carefully detangle the hair using the proper brush or comb recommended for your hair addition.
Always start at the ends and work your way up to prevent unnecessary stress on the hair.
🎨 Step 4: Refresh the Color
Extended sun exposure can sometimes leave blondes looking dull or cause color-treated hair to fade.
If your color isn't looking quite as vibrant as it did before vacation, Studio 2 can help refresh and tone your hair addition to bring it back to life.
❤️ Step 5: Schedule a Post-Vacation Checkup
Just like your natural hair benefits from regular salon visits, your hair addition deserves professional care too.
Our team can inspect your hair addition, recommend any needed treatments, perform maintenance, and help ensure everything is looking and feeling its best after your travels.

Southern summers are NO joke ☀️💨🥵
The humidity?
Aggressive.
The heat?
Relentless.
And your hair addition?
Feeling every bit of it.
If you wear a wig, topper, extensions, or any type of hair addition, summer can bring a whole new set of challenges:
✨ Frizz
✨ Dryness
✨ Tangling
✨ Heavy feeling at the root
✨ Loss of softness & shine
✨ Blonde or grey tones changing color
✨ Styling that lasts approximately 12 minutes outside 😅
At Studio 2, helping our guests maintain their look through the Southern heat is one of the biggest parts of what we do. Because alternative hair is not just about how it looks walking out of the salon — it’s about how it wears in REAL life.
Beach trips.
Pool days.
Sweaty afternoons.
Lake weekends.
Baseball games.
Vacations.
100° weather with 90% humidity. ☀️
Your hair goes through a lot.
That’s why proper maintenance matters so much during the summer months. From hydration treatments and color refreshing to maintenance appointments, product recommendations, and customized care routines, our team is here to help protect the longevity, softness, color, and overall wearability of your hair addition.
We want you to enjoy summer — not spend it fighting your hair every morning.
If your hair addition has been feeling extra dry, frizzy, tangled, dull, or just harder to manage lately, this might be your sign to book your summer refresh with Studio 2 🤍

This STUNNING addition is waiting for you @ Studio 2 Hair Additions in Memphis, TN
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a time to talk about the things people don’t always see.
Hair loss is often viewed as something purely physical—but for many, it’s deeply connected to mental and emotional well-being. Stress, anxiety, trauma, and major life changes can all impact the body in ways we don’t always expect… including hair loss.
And when it happens, it can feel overwhelming.
It’s not “just hair.”
It’s identity. It’s how we show up in the world.
We want to gently remind anyone going through this: it is not a reflection of how hard you’re trying or how well you’re coping. Our bodies respond to life in complex ways, and not everything is within our control.
At Studio 2, we are deeply dedicated to being a safe, supportive space for anyone walking through this journey. From the moment you walk through our doors, our goal is to create an environment where you feel respected, cared for, and never judged. We understand that this experience is personal, and we meet you with compassion, patience, and honesty every step of the way.
Whether you’re just starting to notice changes or have been navigating hair loss for some time, you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to listen, to guide, and to support you in a way that feels right for you.
This month—and every month—let’s lead with kindness. You never know what someone may be going through. 💛
