i founded lilac moon because i believed women deserved spaces that helped them feel beautiful inside and out, reconnect with themselves, and remember who they are underneath the pressure, expectations, and chaos life throws at them. that same mission is what made partnering with the benedict center feel so natural.

whether people want to admit it or not, every single one of us is impacted by the criminal justice system. our tax dollars fund prisons, jails, and a system that often prioritize punishment and profit over rehabilitation. if we actually want safer communities, lower crime rates, and fewer people reoffending, then we need to support organizations that help people actually rehabilitate.

the benedict center has been doing this work since 1974. they provide free mental health counseling, substance abuse support, housing and job resources, legal education, family reunification support, hot meals, clothing, hygiene products, community workshops, and so much more for women impacted by incarceration, trafficking, addiction, and systemic poverty. they also have mobile outreach units throughout milwaukee, connecting with women on the streets before they end up further trapped in systems that were never built to protect them.

this cause is deeply personal to me. the criminal justice system has impacted my family in ways i never imagined, and i’ve seen firsthand how hard people have to fight to rebuild after incarceration. real change happens when communities step up and support the people already doing the work. programs like this are often underfunded and overlooked, despite how critical they are to creating real, lasting change in our communities.

on june 14th, we’re bringing people together not just to celebrate 5 years of lilac moon, but to raise awareness and support an organization that deserves it.

5 years ago, i was turning 22 with a dream of starting my own business.

today, i’m 6 weeks away from celebrating 5 years of actually doing it in a very real, messy, build it from the ground up, figure it out as you go kind of way.

i’ve moved locations more times than i can count, made some iconic decisions and some questionable ones, serviced hundreds of clients, built friendships that changed my life, cried (a lot), questioned myself (also a lot), held my life together while my husband was incarcerated, became a mom, and kept growing through all of it.

this milestone represents a lot.

because today, on my 27th birthday, i can say i am living the life 22 year old me dreamed about.

in honor of 5 years of lilac moon (formally katie b hair, s/o to my OGs bc you’re the reason we’re here), i’m throwing a hell of a birthday party.

i’m hosting milwaukee’s fundraiser of the summer. because HOT GIRLS GIVE BACK!

on june 14 (the actual anniversary!), we’re taking over for an afternoon that’s giving boujee sweet 16 vibes, but make it community, connection, and actual impact.

THE VISION:
-a vendor fair featuring local women owned businesses
-a food truck + custom drink menu
-a room full of like minded people you want to get to know
-over a dozen giveaway prizes that slay

all while we chase our goal of raising $5,000 for , an organization doing hands on work supporting women in our community navigating incarceration, reentry, and rebuilding their lives.

I am so excited and proud to be using this milestone, my platform, and my business, to do something that fcking matters.
