THREE things you should ALWAYS do if you’re already mastering extensions or if you’re working on becoming a hair extension specialist and perfectionist:

1. Always pre-book your client right away for their move-up maintenance appointment!
It’s so easy for both of you to forget to pre-book, and when your client goes way too long without a maintenance move-up you could risk ruining your client’s extension hair or their real hair.

2. Always take a deposit up front for new installs! These extension appointments are luxury, high-end, lengthy appointments that as a stylist, you should prepare long and hard for.
If someone is really serious about becoming a hair extension client of yours, they’ll put money down to preserve their spot and cover the cost of (non refundable) hair that you will be purchasing for them.
The deposit should always go towards the cost of your service.
(It’a also smart to have them sign a contract to protect you from having to return their non refundable deposit if they ask for it.)
It’s not uncommon to do this with other big purchases we make so it shouldn’t be uncommon in the hair industry.

3. Always keep a small stock of on hand so that you can STOP ordering hair last minute for a new client. This is the best way to have different colors on hand for those last minute mix ins during an “uh-oh” color match. Or just to be able to get the BEST blends, customized specifically for each client!
Your stash doesn’t have to start off huge… you don’t need to drop 5k on hair right now! Just slowly purchase one or two extra wefts every time your make a order and your stock will build up over time, making it much easier when you have a new client to install hair on.

This season of life looks a little different than usual. I’ve had a rough start to this pregnancy and I have been so sick. It’s been hard to say no and have to cancel on so many of you, to put myself and my family first, but I have the best most supportive clients! I am so grateful.

Another lifelong struggle with being a mom behind the chair is of course, finding people to watch my kids 😅 We’ve had some changes with babysitters so I’m playing it week by week. I’m not sure what the next few months will look like depending on if I have childcare for them, but if you have an appointment booked, I’ve already made arrangements to still work those days!!

Thank you again for loving me through this chaotic phase of life! Right now work is a little bit pushed to the side and family is coming first, but I’m so confident that I’ll be back to balancing the work-mom life again soon!!
