Grateful to the Black Chamber of Arizona for including Diva de Luxe in a roundtable with Governor Katie Hobbs at the Legacy Center in Phoenix. The Chamber recently acquired the center with a mission to help create 100,000 jobs, and small businesses got a direct voice in that conversation.
Our founder, Imani Ryan, spoke on four priorities for the beauty industry:
Standardized education, so training quality doesn't depend on where you enroll
Workforce development that treats beauty as the career pathway it is
Access to capital and resources for beauty entrepreneurs, who are often overlooked by traditional funding
Better regulation that protects the public and strengthens the profession
Since 2017, we've trained 750+ students and watched talented professionals hit the same barriers again and again. Conversations like this are how that changes.

I won a leadership retreat at a pitch competition and almost treated it like a nice-to-have. I’m so glad I didn’t.
This past weekend I was at Jodi Low’s U the Communicator retreat with U & Improved Leadership Development , and I watched a room full of grown adults — successful, accomplished people — come undone realizing they’ve been the obstacle in their own way this whole time. Myself included.
It wasn’t about tactics or frameworks. It was about the stuff underneath the business — the stuff that actually determines whether the business (or anything else) works.
I’m already planning to have my son go through it. That should tell you everything.

Today, I had the opportunity to meet Governor Governor Katie Hobbs and speak directly about what Arizona’s beauty industry needs: stronger regulations, a standardized eyelash-training curriculum, and education that includes real business development.
I shared the 80-hour model I created in Wisconsin—40 hours of lash education and 40 hours of business startup training—and my vision for bringing a beauty-business incubator to Arizona.
A huge thank-you to the Black Chamber of Arizona and Dr. Dr. Velma Trayham 👩🏽💻 . Being part of the Impact AZ program put me in this room and gave me the opportunity to advocate for my industry, my students, and future beauty entrepreneurs.

Diva de Luxe just took TWO wins out of the BBB, Mountain West & Pacific Southwest Breakthrough Accelerator. Top pitch, check in hand after years of building quietly, I got on that stage and took it.
Second win: a leadership retreat with U & Improved Leadership Development , owned by Jodi Low. And honestly? Visibility was exactly where I was lacking, standing in front of a room, pitching my own business out loud, being seen leading it. This retreat is showing up right where I needed it.
