☀️ July is National UV Safety Month and there's no better time to brush up on the facts. In Louisiana, UV exposure is a year-round concern, making daily sun protection one of the best ways to reduce your risk of skin cancer.

Mohs surgery is designed to remove skin cancer while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. These results are a testament to expert reconstruction and the healing process. 🤍

☀️ Your sunscreen might not be doing what you think it is.

Here’s what you need to know:
🧴 Most people only apply 25–50% of the recommended amount
🤲 SPF matters, but proper application matters more
🌡️ Reapply every 2 hours, especially in the Louisiana heat
💦 “Water-resistant” does not mean waterproof
☀️ Broad spectrum protection covers both UVA + UVB rays

Daily SPF is one of the simplest ways to protect your skin and reduce long-term sun damage.

You'll usually go home with a pressure bandage that should stay clean and dry for the first 48 hours.

After 48 hours, you can remove the bandage at home and begin daily wound care as directed by your Mohs surgeon. This may include cleansing with antibacterial soap, a gentle cleanser, or vinegar soaks.

After cleaning, gently pat the area dry, apply a thin layer of Vaseline, and keep the wound covered until your sutures are removed—typically 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.

We also recommend taking it easy for a few days and avoiding high-intensity exercise or activities that could put stress on the surgical site.
