Día de la Escarapela Nacional.

En 1812, el General Manuel Belgrano solicitó al Gobierno la creación de un distintivo propio que permitiera diferenciar a las tropas patriotas en los combates frente al ejército enemigo.

En respuesta a su pedido, el 18 de febrero de ese mismo año, el Primer Triunvirato decretó oficialmente su uso con estas palabras:

“...desde esta fecha en adelante, se haya, reconozca y use, la Escarapela Nacional de las Provincias Unidas del Río de la Plata, declarándose por tal la de dos colores blanco y azul celeste, quedando abolida la roja con que antiguamente se distinguían”.

Durante las guerras por la emancipación, este distintivo guio los ideales de nuestros soldados en los campos de batalla. Mucho tiempo después, en 1935, el Consejo Nacional de Educación instituyó formalmente el 18 de mayo como su fecha conmemorativa.

Desde entonces, la escarapela es emblema de nuestra identidad nacional, reflejo del espíritu de unidad que impulsó nuestra independencia y el símbolo del ideal de libertad que forjó a nuestra Nación.
