💫 Newer tattoos typically take longer to remove with laser because of how the ink particles and skin healing process work:
1. Ink is still densely packed.
When a tattoo is fresh, the ink particles are tightly clustered in the dermis. Over time, your body’s immune system naturally starts breaking down and carrying away some of the pigment—so older tattoos already have less ink for the laser to target.
2. Less natural fading has occurred.
Older tattoos fade gradually due to sunlight exposure and immune response. This natural fading means there’s less pigment to remove, and the laser can clear it more quickly.
3. Ink particles are larger and less fragmented.
Over time, the body’s macrophages (immune cells) start breaking down ink particles into smaller pieces. Smaller fragments are easier for the laser to shatter and for the lymphatic system to clear away.
