And in case you didn't know, true soap is made from a chemical reaction between lye (NaOH) and oils and fats called saponification. After about 24-48 hours the reaction is done and rather than lye, oil & fat, you have the compound called soap!

So no, once the soap is on the shelf there is no lye in it. Lye is extremely caustic and will burn you. 😅

Next time you're in a big box store, notice how some bars are called "beauty bars" or 'body wash". That's because they're not true soap - lye, oils & fat - they are a mashup of surfactants that cleanse, sure.... But may also leave your skin itchy and dry.
