This is my Grandmother Evelyn Wiebe. She passed away in November 1960 after a 7 year battle with Breast Cancer. When she was diagnosed she had one option…a mastectomy. That was 64 years ago. If it had happened today she would have a wide variety of treatments available. As I face my own diagnosis of Breast Cancer, and with all the treatments available, I know I will come out a survivor! With my family, my friends, my Tribe, my safety nets…I’m going to be a survivor! To all of my Warriors that have fought-are fighting-and those about to learn this is ahead of them…You all are my Heroes!!! I am grateful for their wisdom and thankful for their support!!! There have been leaps and bounds in medicine between my Grandmothers diagnosis and my own. But there are yet so many to be made! 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Every 2 minutes someone is diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It’s the 2nd leading cause of death for women!!! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We can all help spread awareness and support organizations that help us fight our battle. Early detection is critical! Access to different imaging is so important! We can make a difference! I never got to meet my Grandmother…I know she was brave! A warrior! This is only a chapter in my story. WiebeStrong💪🩷
