During our 2026 Annual Dinner: Roger Connor, Owner and Founder of Flowers by Roger, was posthumously awarded the Pillar of Excellence Award.

A Middletown native, 1977 Middletown High School Honors graduate, and son of William and Doris Connor, Roger began his 51-year floral career at just 15 years old in the basement of his parents’ home.

His contagious enthusiasm and passion for life, family, friends, laughter, and flowers carried him to national and international recognition. He appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America with David Hartman and the Joyce Davidson Show in Toronto. His designs were featured in House Beautiful and Bride’s, and his story appeared in Young Tycoons, the Wall Street Journal, and Star Magazine. He served as President of FTD District 4-I for six consecutive years, was a lifelong member of the Society of American Florists and Ohio State Florists Association, and was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), serving on its national design team. In 2025, FTD ranked Flowers by Roger among its Top 100 florists and master designers worldwide.

Roger brought that same passion to his community, serving on the boards of the Middletown Community Foundation, Middletown Lyric Theatre, United Way, Midfest, Sorg Opera Company, Arts in Middletown, Middletown Symphony, Art Central Foundation, and numerous committees. His honors included the American Business Women’s Boss of the Year, Middletown Chamber of Commerce Faith in the Future Award, the Middletown Symphony guest conductor baton, and honorary chairman of the 2016 Charity Ball.

These accomplishments are only a glimpse of the countless lives Roger touched.

When asked to sum up his career, Roger said, “To God be the glory for the great things he has done! I never could have imagined my life would be so wonderful.”

Roger embodied the words: “Never take more from life than what you give back.”

Roger passed away June 16, 2026. His legacy of creativity, generosity, service, and love for Middletown will continue to bloom for generations to come.
