Today we will lay to rest the first man I ever loved. My dad. On Thursday December 16th my father lost his long battle with cancer and other complications from treatments.
I don’t even know where to begin to tell you the incredible man he was. I always looked up to my dad. He was full of so much knowledge and the one I went to for any advice. He was always right, even when I didn’t want him to be. He had the best laugh and an incredible sense of humor. Everyone around him was always waiting to hear what he would say next. Him and my mom were happily married for 57 years. 4 kids. 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was a master at his trade and always worked hard. When he wasn’t working he loved to hunt and fish. Some of my most favorite memories of him were when we were out on the water fishing together. He loved his family and his country.
He was a fighter and many will say the strongest man they have ever known. He never complained and even after this horrible disease left him a shell of a man we once knew he never once asked “why me”.
I hope he is in heaven with my brother looking down on all of us with a smile seeing just how loved he was.
My heart is broken and I long for just one more hug, but I know that your suffering is over. Rest easy now Dad. Your memory will live on in all of us.
