Hi friends! As we head into warmer weather that means construction season 🫠 be sure to check for the latest updates on the Midland Fb page and plan accordingly when heading into downtown this summer!!

TRAFFIC ALERT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that phase one of Midland Corridor Forward—also known as the M-20/US-10 BR Improvement Project—begins today, March 24.

During this phase, Indian Street and westbound US-10 Business Route (Patrick Road) will be closed and traffic detoured onto Buttles Street and eastbound US-10 Business Route (Lyon Road). To accommodate this, Buttles Street and Lyon Road will be temporarily converted to accommodate two-way traffic. To reiterate: two-way traffic on Buttles and Lyon is TEMPORARY while construction occurs, despite what your neighbor Dave may tell you.

Phase one of Midland Corridor Forward involves the reconstruction of Patrick Road from Washington to Indian, the resurfacing of Indian Street from Patrick to Jerome, the reconstruction of Jerome Street from W. Main to Indian, and water main installation.

Phase one is estimated to be completed by November 15, 2026. Phase two will begin in 2027, with additional traffic restrictions announced in advance.

Once complete, Midland Corridor Forward will bring significant improvements to this corridor, including a 10-foot-wide pathway along the south side of Buttles Street, enhanced lighting, new traffic control mast arms, new street trees, and buried utilities. These are long-term investments to enhance one of our community’s most prominent gateways.

Motherhood doesn’t always look the way we expect it to.

It’s messy, magical, heartbreaking, healing—and sometimes, invisible to the outside world. Some of you are raising littles. Some are loving other people’s littles. Some are still waiting. Some are grieving. And some are just trying to survive this day with their heart intact.

I know I haven’t posted in a minute…life got full, and winter got long, you know? 🫣Honestly, it was kind of wonderful, I needed to refocus on home, family, rest… and maybe binge-read a few questionable books in peace. 🫠

Now that the sun’s finally sticking around and life’s blooming again, it felt like the right time to come out of my social media hibernation. 🫶🏼 So…Hi Friend, I missed you!

For those who don’t know me yet, I’m Nikki—your redhead whisperer and unofficial therapist with a round brush. 👋🏼 I’m the face behind Hair by Nikki D. at LUX the Salon in beautiful Downtown, Midland Michigan, and I was honored to Win Midland Daily News’ Readers Choice Award for Best Salon/Stylist in 2024.

When I’m not behind the chair, I’m a boy mom x3, married to my favorite human, and a sucker for a good book and a better glass of wine. 📖 +🥂=🥰

I’m a big believer in slow mornings (even though they rarely happen) cozy pajamas and deep conversations. I’m obsessed with travel inspo, and decorating tips and want to hear all the tea you’re wanting to spill, but don’t want to be involved in any of it! 🙃🤣

What I really do, though? I hold space. For the tired moms, those reinventing themselves, the ones who just need an hour to breathe. My chair is a place where you can let go, catch your breath, and walk out feeling refreshed—not just in your hair, but in your spirit too. Let’s make something beautiful together.
