She wants to be a bleach retouch clientā¦ but her last stylist gave her highlights with color dropped in betweenā¦ which created that warm band.
Goal:
āØ As blonde as possible without being ashy or white.
āØ Get rid of banding
āØ Golden blonde
Hair like this can feel intimidatingā¦ and itās easy to overcomplicate it. Here is exactly how I tackled this:
I started with Blonde IQ + 10 vol on the warm band and regrowth (leaving about Ā¼ inch out).
I stacked my foils up the head, keeping those ends out. Each time I mixed fresh lightener, I bumped my developer up by 5 vol (10 ā 15 ā 20 ā 25 ā finishing with 30 vol)
Once she lifted to a level 9, I went back and tapped that Ā¼ inch root with Blonde Icing + Blonde Idol Cream Developer 20 vol, pulling foils as I worked up the head.
After rinsing, I glossed with Redken Shades EQ 09GB + 09GI (equal parts) for that creamy, golden blonde she loves š
Moral of the story:
Donāt panic. Have a plan, simplify what you need to do, and control your developer.
This stool has me acting brand newā¦ walking is for peasants!š

If you show me this as your inspo photo and you arenāt a natural blondeā¦ Iām going to lie to you and tell you this picture is AI. š
It seriously took her 20 minutes to lift this bright & I toned her with clear. STUNNING.
You would NEVER KNOW that she has four wefts in her hair.
Also can we take a minute to appreciate that blend? We ordered blonde extensions and I custom colored them to match her gorgeous red hair. š
Why are they hiding this from us?! š
You arenāt going to find me in a different SHEIN outfit everyday. Iām a basics girlie and would choose a few quality pieces over quantity any day! I like to rotate around my basics to make different outfits. When in doubt you canāt go wrong with good denim, a blazer, cowboy boots, and a plain black t-shirt. š©·

Imagine thinking cosmetologists arenāt influencers.. meanwhile we are literally influencing people on what to look like, what they should buy, watch, what foods to try, & boutiques to shop atā¦ and on top of that.. we have built face to face connections so our opinions are actually trusted!
So donāt let it get you down that you only have 800 followers and Becky from high school is going around telling people āsHe NeeDs tO ShUt uP & DO hAiR.. iNsTeAd oF pOStInG lIkE sHeāS AN InFluEncerā.. babes you ARE an influencer. You influence every client that sits in your chairā¦ then they go on to influence each person in their lives and it spreads!

I always try to under promise & over deliver!
Especially with color corrections & major transformations.
If a client comes in with permanent color, banding, or a wild inspo picā¦ donāt promise perfection in one session just to book the appointment. THATS what will lead to a 3 part TikTok story time, about how you ādOnT kNOw WhAt YouāRe DoINgā, since you only got them 3/4ths of the way there. š¤¦š¼āāļø
What I actually say in consultations:
āYour goal is achievable, but might not be possible to do in one session. Today weāre focusing on progress, not perfection. Iād rather under-promise and over-deliver than rush the process and compromise your hair! The only thing I can promise is that we will be closer to your goal after this session and I wonāt let you leave looking crazy.ā

āColor correctionā sounds like Iām having to fix something awfulā¦ which does happen sometimesā¦ but I prefer the term ācolor transformationā because sometimes the beginning result isnāt hideous.. you are just ready for something new but that requires tedious work that takes forever and costs $$$!
This red to blonde transformation took a little over 7 hours!

I went straight from living with my parentsā¦ to living with my husband and child, so I really got to have fun creating my dream space, that is full of color and fun. My inner teenager is being healed in this suite! I hope that each client I serve feels that same level of comfort here.
I LOVE suite lifeā¦ but itās not where most stylists should start.
Suites come with overhead beyond rent: products, tools, insurance, fees, education, and taxes add up fast.
If youāre fresh out of school (or even just to a city), working in a salon gives you time to:
āØ BUILD CLIENTELE
āØ learn pricing & timing
āØ create community in your industry
āØ learn from more experienced stylists
There is no need to rush! The goal should be sustainability firstā¦ then you can worry about independence.š©·
