If you "used to be able to lose weight just by cutting back", and now nothing works, read this twice.

Mama, that's not you losing your edge. After the babies, your body did something smart: it flipped into survival mode and started guarding your fat stores like they're precious. Because to a tired, depleted, still-rebuilding body… they are.

So every round of eat-less-move-more sent the same message: *we're not safe yet.* And your body answered the only way it knows how, hold on tighter.

Your body isn't broken. It's protecting you.

This week I'm hosting a FREE training: **"Your Body Isn't Broken: The Postpartum Survival-Mode Reset"**, where I walk through why a postpartum body stops responding to the old rules, and what it actually takes to send the safety signal so it can stop protecting and start releasing. Signals, not willpower. No tracking, no restriction.

I'm a mom of 9. I've been at rock bottom in my own body. I've coached 500+ moms through this exact stuck place. I promise you there's a way out, and it's gentler than what you've been doing.

ASK JEN: "Why do I feel puffy and swollen everywhere weeks after birth instead of shrinking down like I expected?"

Mama, I remember this one. You step on the scale, look in the mirror, press a thumb into a puffy ankle, and nothing feels like it's "coming off." Here's the honest answer: that swelling isn't fat, and it isn't a stall. It's fluid your body deliberately stockpiled to grow and deliver a baby, and it drains out slowly, on its own timeline, not yours.

Pregnancy nearly doubles your blood and fluid volume. Your body didn't malfunction; it provisioned. And releasing all of that happens over weeks, not days, showing up as night sweats, extra bathroom trips, and a slow, uneven de-puffing in your hands, ankles, and face.

So if you feel puffy everywhere right now, your body isn't failing a job. It's finishing one.

Save this for the morning you catch your reflection and need the reminder. πŸ’—

You do not have to overhaul your entire day to feel like yourself again. Start here.

When fatigue hits hard, one simple place to start is a high-protein first meal. Not just a snack, but a real, protein-dense meal within the first hour of waking. Eggs from the farm, ground beef, chicken thighs, real food that can help fuel your body and support your day.

Here is why protein can be a helpful part of your morning. Starting the day with a protein-rich meal can provide your body with protein to support muscle maintenance, recovery, and overall nutrition. One meal. One simple shift that may help you feel more supported throughout your day.

If you’ve been feeling like you’re running on empty, consider starting tomorrow with a protein-rich, whole-food breakfast. Save this and give it a try. Individual results vary.

Why does one bad night of sleep make you want to eat everything the next day?

It's not weak willpower. It's two little hormones doing their job.

When you sleep, your "go get food" signal (ghrelin) settles down and your "I'm full" signal (leptin) stays strong. Miss a night, and that flips β€” hunger turns up, fullness turns down, and by afternoon you're standing in the pantry wondering what's wrong with you.

Nothing's wrong with you. It's chemistry. And the good news? It settles back down as your sleep pieces back together, one night at a time.

Why does the same walk feel like a mountain some days and nothing on others?

If your energy swings from fine to leaden with no clear reason, this one's for you, mama. Months after a baby, your body is quietly rebuilding its blood supply, and every red blood cell is a tiny delivery truck carrying oxygen to your muscles. Iron is what loads the oxygen on. When your stores run low, the delivery line thins out, and ordinary effort starts to feel disproportionately heavy. Nothing's wrong with you. Your body is doing invisible, important work.

🎬 Metabolism in Motion, watch how oxygen actually gets to your muscles, and why a rebuilding body sometimes runs heavy.

Save this for the next day a short walk feels like a climb. πŸ’—

ASK JEN: "Why do I feel starving all day when I'm breastfeeding but the weight won't move?"

Sweet friend, feeling hungrier and seeing little change on the scale can happen at the same time. Neither is a measure of your worth.

Making milk takes energy, and breastfeeding generally increases nutritional needs. Those needs differ with your activity, feeding pattern and other individual factors.

Weight changes after pregnancy also vary. A stalled scale doesn't tell us one specific thing about your metabolism, and eating protein isn't a switch that guarantees fat loss.

Focus on regular, satisfying meals and snacks. Including protein alongside other foods you enjoy can be a practical way to nourish yourself. No need to earn your food.

If hunger feels persistent or intense, energy stays low, or you have concerns about your recovery or milk supply, talk with your clinician or a qualified lactation professional for individual support.

Save this for the next hard morning, mama. πŸ’—

ASK JEN: "Why does my belly still look pregnant months later when the weight is basically gone?"

Mama, if you're back near your old weight but still getting asked when you're due, I know that sting. And I want you to hear this: that rounded shape usually isn't fat, and it isn't failure.

It's your abdominal wall. Pregnancy stretched and softened the connective tissue down the middle and gently separated the muscles so your body could make room. That's not damage, that's design.

And here's the part the scale can't tell you: that structure re-knits on its OWN clock. Slowly. Unevenly. Totally independent of the number you weigh. You can be "back" by the scale and still be mid-rebuild in the wall underneath.

So before you read that belly as proof you're behind, know what's actually happening in there. It's not lagging. It's quietly doing real structural work. Give it the same patience you'd give a healing anything else.

Save this for the next morning the mirror tries to lie to you. πŸ’—, For informational and educational purposes only; not medical advice. Consult your physician before beginning any nutrition, supplement, or exercise program. Results vary. Does not diagnose, treat, or cure any disease.

When moms come to me exhausted and stuck, I start with these 5 metabolic signals that keep fat stored and energy low.

1. You wake up tired no matter how much sleep you get. This points to unstable blood sugar through the night.

2. You need something sweet after every meal. Your body is running on glucose and craving its next hit.

3. You feel puffy, bloated, and inflamed. Elevated insulin triggers your body to hold onto water and fat.

4. Your energy crashes hard in the afternoon. A sign your cells cannot access fat as fuel yet.

5. You are doing everything right but the scale will not move. This is weight loss resistance, and it is a metabolic issue, not a willpower issue.

Ketosis changes this by shifting your body off glucose and onto fat as its primary fuel source. No tracking required. Just the right signals sent consistently. 🩷 Individual results vary.

Canning morning in the big kitchen β€” beating the first frost.

Tomatoes off the vine, beans by the bushel, and every empty jar we own lined up on the counter. When the garden comes in all at once, you don't wait. You put up the late-summer harvest so you've got something to open in the dead of winter.

Steam on the windows, kids on stools, flour and tomato juice on everybody's hands. This is late summer on the ranch.

A quick safety note from our kitchen: beans are low-acid and must be pressure canned using a tested recipe. For tomatoes, follow a tested recipe including its acidification instructions. Little ones stay clear of hot equipment.

THE LIE: Skip breakfast and your body will just burn the baby weight. πŸ‘€

Skipping breakfast is not a guarantee of weight loss. Postpartum recovery and weight changes vary, and there isn't one meal-timing rule that fits every mom.

If skipping your morning meal leaves you extra hungry or low on energy later, try a satisfying breakfast with a source of protein and foods you enjoy. Think eggs and toast, yogurt with fruit, or leftovers that work for your morning.

Protein first can be a practical way to build a nourishing meal. It isn't a signal that switches fat loss on, and eating breakfast isn't a promise about what the scale will do.

You don't have to earn your food. Feeding yourself is part of caring for yourself.

Save this for the next morning you're tempted to 'be good' and skip. πŸ’—
