✂️ FRIDAY HAIR MATH — Stylist Edition 😂
You know how I’m always reminding you guys to make your hair appointments?
Wellllll…apparently I need to take my own advice. 🤦‍♀️😂
For weeks I’ve been saying:
“I really need to do my hair.”
The greys are showing. 👀
I desperately need a trim. ✂️
I KNOW it needs done.
Have I colored it yet?
Nope.
Have I made MY haircut appointment yet?
Also nope. 😂
Apparently hairstylists are just as guilty as everyone else!
So if you've been walking around saying “I really need to get my hair done” while continuing to do absolutely nothing about it…
Hi. 🙋‍♀️ I'm currently one of you. 😂
Maybe we should ALL get our lives together next week. 🤣✂️
And speaking of next week…let's just say it's a pretty good week to decide you're finally ready to do something about that hair. 👀

TRUST. THE. PROCESS. 👀✂️

Yesterday I showed you the finished result of my daughter's 5-hour hair transformation…but let's talk about what happened BEFORE we got there.

Because sometimes getting to beautiful hair looks a little scary in the middle. 😂

We weren't simply changing her color. I first needed to deal with the artificial color that was already living in her hair.

We started with a CPR treatment to help remove unwanted artificial pigment.

From there, I did a gentle lightening/soap-cap step to continue preparing the hair for our new color.

And THIS is where those famous stylist words come in…
“Trust the process.” 😂

At certain stages of a color correction, the hair may look warmer, uneven or absolutely NOTHING like the color you're ultimately trying to achieve.
That's okay. It's not finished.
Each step has a purpose.

Once I had the canvas where I needed it, I could move on to her root formula and then another formula to color through her mids and ends.

And you saw yesterday how THAT turned out. 😍

This is also why major color changes aren't always as simple as “Just put this color over it.”

Sometimes we have to work through what's already IN the hair before we can create what's going ON the hair.

Five hours. Multiple steps. One plan. ✂️

And a whole lot of TRUST THE PROCESS. 🖤

🎂 Birthday Girl is in Mom’s Chair Today! ✂️

My daughter has been wanting her hair done for a while, so I reached out and said, “Wanna do hair Monday?”

And it just so happens that today is also HER BIRTHDAY! 🥳🎂

So part of her birthday is being spent in Mom’s chair while we finally tackle the hair we’ve been talking about…and let’s just say, this one is going to take us a while. 😂✂️

I’ve also made myself a promise today:

TAKE. THE. PICTURES. MINDI. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

After admitting last week that I got so wrapped up in conversation with a client that I completely forgot her before AND after pictures, I am determined to document this one!

You don’t have to walk into the salon saying, “I want something completely different!” to walk out feeling completely refreshed.

Sometimes the smallest changes make you fall in love with your hair all over again.

Running on approximately 2 hours of sleep thanks to one of those unexpected nights where sleep just wasn’t happening. 🥱☕
And apparently the universe decided to have a little fun with me today because…
2 of my 3 clients were named Mindy.
For those keeping track…
I’m Mindi. 😂
So we had Mindi doing Mindy’s hair while waiting for the next Mindy.
On TWO HOURS OF SLEEP.
Honestly, I’m just impressed everyone left with the right hair. 🤣✂️
But the clients are done, the salon survived, and this Mindi is officially calling it a day!
Time to go get some much-needed beauty sleep. 😴💤
Because apparently tomorrow’s beauty starts with the hairstylist getting some sleep first. 😂🖤

Sometimes the goal isn’t MORE color…it’s SMARTER color. ✂️

Yesterday I had a returning client in my chair who is working toward getting her hair back to where she wants it.

Instead of simply covering everything up, we’re taking a more strategic approach.

We added highlights AND lowlights to break up the existing color and create more dimension, while also helping her natural regrowth blend into the rest of her hair.

And apparently we were so deep in great conversation that I never even took a before OR after picture to show you how beautiful it turned out! 🤦‍♀️😂 Sometimes I get so caught up in my clients and our conversations that I completely forget about the content!

But here’s WHY I wish I had remembered…

Because a beautiful color shouldn’t only look good the day you leave the salon. I want to think about what it’s going to look like weeks from now, too.

By breaking up that solid color, we’re helping soften that obvious line of demarcation as her hair grows — giving her a much softer grow-out and potentially more time between color appointments. 🙌

Sometimes getting to your hair goal isn’t a one-appointment transformation. It’s creating a plan and working toward it while keeping the health of your hair in mind.

And THAT is where a good consultation comes in. 🖤

The reason I may not be able to give you an exact price from the picture alone is because your inspiration photo shows me where you want to go—but I still need to see where we're starting.

Your current color, previous color, length, thickness, condition of your hair and the steps we'll need to take all play a part in the service and pricing.

Two people can show me the exact same inspiration photo and need two completely different plans to get there!

That's where a consultation comes in. ✂️

It gives us a chance to talk about your hair, your goals, maintenance, budget and what's realistically achievable while keeping your hair healthy.
