I’m happy to announce that my new ebook “A Botanical Approach to Radiant Skin: An Esthetician’s Guide to Herbs For Skin” is now available for free download! There are eight herbs featured for topical application, with an emphasis on how they support stressed skin.
One of the herbs I feature is Lavender. Relaxing lavender is highly beneficial for stressed skin. Apart from its ability to rid the skin from unwanted bacteria, it gently calms red areas and soothes discomfort from bites, burns, and stings. Research shows that lavender essential oil is helpful for skin conditions like dermatitis and eczema.
My ebook contains links to research so you can take a deeper dive. Download for free from the link in our bio.

Cold-pressed from orange peels, this delightful essential oil (Citrus sinensis) smells exactly like a freshly sliced orange. Aromatherapists traditionally use sweet orange essential oil to boost the mood while simultaneously decreasing feelings of depression. This use was confirmed in 2012 by a controlled scientific study. In the study, 40 men were exposed to a stressful situation. The men who smelled sweet orange essential oil before the stressful situation stayed significantly calmer throughout the experience. More studies are needed to know the full effects of sweet orange essential oil for anxiety and depression, but it’s always exciting to see modern studies align with traditional uses.
Sweet Orange is one of the stress relieving oils in our Restorative Mind-Body Massage Oil.

Essential oils are created through a distillation process, making them highly concentrated plant extracts that can be an irritant when used improperly. For applications to the face and body, it’s important to use botanical EOs in proper dilution - to avoid damage to the facial skin barrier and skin reactions.
First, dilute them in a carrier oil or lotion - some of my favorite carrier oils include organic jojoba, apricot kernel, almond, and avocado.
When adding EOs to a carrier solution, follow these guidelines for people 15 years+:
🧡 Face: .2 - 1.5%
🧡 Full Body: 1.5 - 3% (exception is prenatal at 2%)
🧡 Specific issues/local applications: 4 - 20%
“Aromatherapy Recipes For Skin Care Specialists” details how to calculate percentages of EO’s for safe dilution. Download my ebook for free from the link in bio.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is a time-tested and beloved essential oil for stress. Loved around the world, lavender is one of the most popular essential oils for stress and anxiety. Dozens of studies (if not more!) have demonstrated lavender’s ability to ease tension and promote a sense of calm and relaxation (Koulivand et al., 2013).
Weaving essential oils into a spa experience can immediately transport clients to a bed of blossoms, encouraging decompression and elevating their relaxation. For recipes that include lavender for your treatment room, download my free ebook, “Aromatherapy Recipes For Skin Care Specialists” (link in bio).

Weaving essential oils into a spa experience can immediately transport clients to a more peaceful state. Nearly all of our clients enjoy having aromatherapy included in their service. A full body oil application or a neck and shoulder massage that includes an aromatherapy oil makes your treatment stand out as it lowers your client’s stress level, which is directly related to healthier, more vibrant skin!
At we use the Restorative Mind-Body Massage Oil for neck and shoulder massage, and for full body massage (warmed!) after a body wrap. For other ways to incorporate EO’s into your healing space, check out my free Ebook “Aromatherapy Recipes For Skin Care Specialists”. Just follow the link in our bio to download.

Sandalwood (Santalum album) essential oil has a woodsy, sensual smell that helps instill a feeling of security and trust, encouraging an inner piece throughout the day. It’s no wonder that it has been used in spiritual ceremonies for centuries! Sandalwood is one of our favorite essential oils for stress. Modern studies agree that Sandalwood “can alleviate the physiological reactions to psychological stress and facilitate recovery after exposition to stress” (Nat Prod Commun 2016 Oct; 11(10):1561-1564).
In searching for alternatives to cortisone for skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, researchers discovered that Sandalwood essential oil (SEO) is one of the most potent natural topicals. SEO has the ability to effectively inhibit the PDE4 enzyme, thereby blocking cytokine signaling and inflammation. (Front. Pharmacol., March 2018 Volume 9 2018).

Hi! I thought it would be a good time for an introduction. I’m Jessica Goniea, formulator and maker of Stony Creek Aromatics. I have been a licensed esthetician since 2000 and a certified aromatherapist since 2019. My first love is creating relaxing experiences through facials and plant essences.
I first created Stony Creek Aromatics to use at my spa where I was inspired to offer it to a wider audience after receiving raving reviews from clients. Our products are handcrafted out of my little farmhouse in Michigan. We are part of the Stony Creek Watershed, with a pond and creek that runs through our 2.5 acre land. My time is spent there with my husband, who is our full time farmer, and our three teenagers, three goats, twelve chickens, eight ducks, and one barn cat. You can find me there tending the herb, dye and rain gardens, or spinning and weaving mohair yarn.
I love people and connectivity, but I’m also an introvert. I’m a Ta**us, a dancer, and love travel, good food, music and the mountains. If there is anything you would like to know about me, or if we have something in common, feel free to drop a question or comment. 🌿❤️

When sourcing essential oils, it’s important to look for sustainable and ethical brands that support the herbs, planet, and people harvesting these wondrous botanicals. The quality of EOs on the market is mixed. High demand for EOs has led to overharvesting, monocropping (which leads to soil damage), and workers’ rights issues. If we do our due diligence to research plants, sustainable essential oil supplies will support a healthier planet overall. While all essential oils should be sourced sustainably, there are a few common scents that are at-risk of being overharvested and, as a result, should be used sparingly and purchased with care:
🤎Agarwood
🤎Atlas Cedarwood
🤎Frankincense
🤎Myrrh
🤎Palo Santo
🤎Sandalwood
Our Restorative Mind-Body Massage Oil contains Sandalwood (Santalum album) from Australia, to ensure a sustainable harvest. The new Ebook, “Aromatherapy Recipes For Skin Care Specialists”, provides sources for shopping high-quality essential oil suppliers. Free download link in our bio.
