Cardiac Arrest Save!!!
Recently , while a class was being held at “Milford CrossFit”, someone came running in and yelled “We need a Doctor”. This is when Retired MFD Battalion Chief/Paramedic - Dan Wassmer, (featured in picture) who was coaching the class, sprang into action. Prior to arriving at the the patients side, Wassmer had the forethought to instruct someone to “grab the AED”. He arrived at the side of the patient and found that they were in Cardiac Arrest. He immediately started CPR. Wassmer having just taught a CPR class the day prior at Gateway Community College, was 100% prepared for the situation in front of him. After he and a 2nd EMS professional (name not known) performed CPR and a single shock was delivered from the AED, they were able to get pulses back and the patient began to breathe on their own. The patient was transported to Bridgeport ED for further treatment by MFD Fire/EMS crews. Due to Retired BC Wassmer’s early recognition, his knowledge/skills/abilities, and the fact that accessible/working AED’s were present at the business/facility, the patient has since been released from the hospital. He is at home, recovering well and has a great outlook!
