🎙️ I’m a psychologist and here’s more about emotions and feelings than most people learn in a lifetime

🌊 Feelings are waves. They rise, peak, and fade. Your job is to surf them, not fight the ocean. Emotions are designed to pass, not to drown you.

🧾 They’re like emails. Information, not orders. Your brain’s way of flagging something important, but you don’t have to “reply all” to every feeling.

💬 Language matters. Say “I feel anxious” instead of “I am anxious”. You’re not your emotions. You’re the sky, and feelings are just passing clouds.

⚖️ We can hold mixed emotions. Love and frustration can sit in the same moment. It’s not contradiction, it’s being human.

🔍 Every emotion has two layers. The spark (your first raw reaction) and the smoke (your feeling about that feeling). The spark is automatic. The smoke is where you have choice.

💥 Big reaction? That’s like a smoke alarm. It might be warning you about an old fire, not what’s happening right now.

😓 Avoiding emotions is like holding a beach ball underwater. It’s exhausting and eventually it will burst through the surface.

🎚️ Numb one emotion, numb them all. Turn down sadness and you dim the lights on joy too.

🪞 Emotions are contagious. Like yawns. Notice who you “catch” yours from.

🚪 You can’t heal what you won’t face. Just like a wound, feelings need to be seen to be cleaned.

🎯 Emotional mastery isn’t a dam. It’s learning to steer your boat through ever-changing tides.
