Most people know me as a massage therapist. What you may not realize is just how medical much of my work actually is, and how intentionally I blend Western and Eastern approaches to the body.
Before becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist, I spent 16 years in nursing.
That knowledge didnāt disappear when I changed careers.
I built on it.
Today, Iām a Licensed Massage Therapist and Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (LMT, BCTMB), and medical massage is very much a part of my practice.
Medical massage isnāt necessarily a specific massage āroutine.ā Itās therapeutic bodywork approached through a clinical lens, considering anatomy, physiology, pathology, medications, previous injuries, surgeries, medical diagnoses, contraindications, movement patterns and the many factors that can contribute to pain and dysfunction.
That is already how I work.
But my approach doesnāt stop with Western medicine.
I combine that clinical foundation with Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, meridian theory, Energy Medicine, clinical aromatherapy, cupping and Gua Sha, along with hands-on therapeutic techniques.
Because I donāt look at the body as a collection of isolated muscles.
I look at the whole person.
Depending on what Iām seeing and feeling, a session may incorporate:
⢠Targeted therapeutic massage
⢠Trigger-point and myofascial work
⢠Cupping
⢠Gua Sha
⢠Acupressure and meridian-based work
⢠Assisted stretching and mobility work
⢠Energy balancing techniques
⢠Breathwork
⢠Clinical aromatherapy
⢠TCM-informed approaches to patterns of imbalance
The goal isnāt to throw every modality I know into one appointment.
Itās to determine what makes sense for the person in front of me.
My nursing background taught me to think clinically, to understand disease processes, medications, contraindications, medical terminology and when symptoms warrant evaluation by another healthcare professional.
Massage therapy taught me how to work directly with soft tissue, movement, tension and pain patterns.
Traditional Chinese Medicine gave me another framework for looking at relationships throughout the body.
Energy Medicine added another dimension to how I approach balance and regulation.
Cupping, Gua Sha, aromatherapy and the other modalities Iāve studied simply give me more tools to choose from.
I didnāt leave Western medicine for holistic medicine.
I integrated them.
Thatās probably the simplest way to describe what happens in my treatment room.
Sometimes you need relaxation, and there is tremendous value in that.
Sometimes you need focused therapeutic work.
And sometimes you need someone willing to look beyond the spot that hurts and ask:
Why is your body doing this in the first place?
Thatās where my work lives.
Medical. Therapeutic. Holistic. Individualized.
Different traditions. Different tools. One whole person on the table.

Know Who Owns Your Supplements
Iāve been paying much closer attention lately to who actually owns the wellness brands I support.
A supplement company can still have the same familiar name and packaging while the company behind it has completely changed. And personally, I want more of my money going to family owned and independent companies rather than multinational consumer conglomerates and private equity firms.
So I did some digging. Here are a few worth knowing:
š« THORNE
Thorne was acquired by Procter & Gamble (P&G). I have used and recommended Thorne products in the past, but because of that change in ownership, I am personally transitioning away from the brand.
š« PURE ENCAPSULATIONS
Pure Encapsulations is part of NestlƩ Health Science. Another brand with an excellent professional reputation, but its ultimate parent is NestlƩ.
š« DOUBLE WOOD SUPPLEMENTS
Double Wood was originally founded by twin brothers Reese and Evan Wood, but it is now under private equity ownership. For me, that puts it in the same category of brands Iām choosing to move away from.
ā
NOW FOODS
This is one Iām very happy to continue supporting. NOW remains family owned and has been in business since 1968. Iāve personally used many NOW products for years, including their carrier oils, and theyāve been consistently excellent.
ā
HIMALAYA WELLNESS
Another company Iām comfortable supporting. Himalaya was founded in 1930 and remains family owned, with the Manal family continuing its involvement across generations.
Why does ownership matter to me?
An acquisition doesnāt automatically mean a product suddenly becomes unsafe or ineffective. Thatās not what Iām claiming.
Itās about consumer choice.
I want to know who ultimately profits from the products I purchase. Whenever I have a quality alternative, Iād rather support companies that have maintained family or independent ownership than continually funnel my dollars toward a handful of enormous corporations and investment firms.
And hereās something Iāve learned:
Read the Supplement Facts, but also read the fine print on who owns the company.
The wellness industry is far more consolidated than most consumers realize.
Iāll be making some changes to my own supplement cabinet accordingly. šæ
Know what youāre taking. Know who makes it. Know who owns them. Then decide where YOU want your money to go.
Well, every appointment in August is now full. September is getting full fast. I suggest you book now for next month if you need in! If you canāt find your preferred date/time, utilize the wait list feature so that you can be notified first if it becomes available!!

A Back-to-School Health Reminder ā¤ļø
Back-to-school time is less than two weeks away, which means weāre also heading into the time of year when respiratory illnesses begin making their rounds again.
I want to share an important health policy for my practice as we head into fall.
I have quite a few clients who are immunocompromised or medically vulnerable, and massage is an important part of their care. Protecting their ability to safely come into my treatment room is incredibly important to me.
Because of that, if you are experiencing any signs or symptoms of a respiratory illness, you will not be seen and your appointment will need to be rescheduled.
That includes cough, sore throat, fever, chills, unusual congestion or runny nose, body aches, or other symptoms of respiratory illness ā even if they seem mild.
Please donāt come in hoping we can make the call once you arrive. If youāre sick, weāll simply find another day for your massage when youāre feeling better. ā¤ļø
Iām also implementing a 10-day waiting period following vaccination before your massage appointment. This is a precautionary policy I have chosen for my practice.
There are two reasons I need to be firm about this.
First and most importantly, I have a responsibility to the immunocompromised and medically vulnerable clients who trust me with their care. Someone who experiences a relatively minor illness could unknowingly expose another person for whom that same illness could be much more serious.
Second, Iām self-employed. I donāt have PTO or paid sick leave. If I become ill, several days of appointments may need to be canceled ā affecting not only me, but every client on my schedule.
None of this is meant to make anyone feel badly about getting sick. Kids bring things home. Viruses happen. Life happens!
I simply ask that when they do, please stay home and let me reschedule you.
I want my treatment room to remain a place where all of my clients ā especially those who are medically vulnerable ā can feel comfortable receiving the care they need.
Thank you for understanding, for respecting this boundary, and most of all, for helping me take care of one another. š
I have a 2 pm 1 hour massage available tomorrow!
To continue providing the level of care youāve come to expect, my session rates will increase by $5, effective September 1, 2026.
Over the past 6 years, Iāve increased my rates by a total of just $10. During that time, the cost of fuel, supplies, continuing education, and operating a small business has steadily increased. This modest adjustment allows me to continue investing in my practice and providing the personalized care each of you deserves.
A few important notes:
šŗšø Veterans and seniors will continue to receive their $10 discount.
⨠Founding members of The Restoration Collective will not be affected by this increase. Your membership rate will remain the same as a thank-you for your trust and early support.
I never take for granted the trust you place in me. Whether youāve been with me since the beginning or found me more recently, Iām truly grateful that youāve chosen me to be part of your wellness journey.
Thank you for supporting my small business and allowing me to do work that I genuinely love. I look forward to continuing to help you move better, feel better, and live with less pain.
With gratitude,
ā¤ļø Sarah

š BIG NEWS! š
Many of you have been asking when youād be able to order Muscle Mender onlineā¦
Wellā¦itās finally happening!
This October, Muscle Mender is launching as a body oil!
Making it a body oil means I can finally ship it year round, so whether youāre one town over or across the country, youāll be able to keep it on hand whenever your body needs a little extra help.
Hereās something thatās important to meā¦
Muscle Mender was never created to be ājust another body oil.ā It was created for pain relief. Period.
As a Board Certified Massage Therapist, Certified Clinical Aromatherapist, former nurse, and Holistic Health Practitioner, Iāve spent decades helping people who hurt. Sore muscles. Aching joints. Angry tendons. Stiff ligaments. Pain has always been at the heart of what I do, and I wanted to create something people could use at home between appointments.
Every bottle is thoughtfully crafted with a blend of three incredible essential oils, each selected for its traditional use in supporting muscle discomfort, joint discomfort, and tendon and ligament discomfort.
I also added magnesium oil to help relax tight, overworked muscles, because sometimes your body needs more than a massage, it needs ongoing support.
But there was one thing I absolutely refused to compromise onā¦
I didnāt want it to smell like pain relief. I wanted it to smell like healing.
No overpowering menthol.
No medicinal smell that announces youāve rubbed on a pain product.
Instead, I carefully selected essential oils that not only support the formulaās purpose but also create an uplifting aroma thatās beautiful to wear. Because when youāre hurting, caring for your emotional well-being matters, too.
And because those of you who know me know I believe healing is about more than just the physical bodyā¦
Every bottle is also infused with carefully selected herbs and crystals that reflect the intention behind the formula. Itās one more way I pour my heart, my experience, and my passion for holistic healing into every bottle I make.
Then I asked myselfā¦
āWhat about the people whose pain keeps them awake at night?ā
š Thatās how Muscle Mender Midnight Oil was born.
It starts with the same pain relieving foundation as the original Muscle Mender, then adds a carefully crafted nighttime aromatherapy blend designed to help soothe the body, quiet a busy mind, and help you ease into a restful nightās sleep.
Because healing doesnāt stop when the sun goes down.
Whether you need relief after a workout, a long shift, a day in the garden, or you simply wake up hurtingā¦
Thereās finally a Muscle Mender for your day.
And nowā¦
Thereās one for your night.
I donāt just make products.
I create tools to help people hurt less, to help people heal.
That has been my mission throughout my career, and it will always be the heart behind everything I create.
I truly canāt wait to share these with you this October. ā¤ļø

Relief That Works Overtime.
āļø Day: Relieve the hurt.
š Night: Relieve the hurt. Restore your rest.

š½ FREAKY FACT FRIDAY
⨠Your body glows⦠literally.
It sounds like science fiction, but itās actually science.
Researchers have discovered that the human body naturally emits an incredibly faint light known as biophotons, or ultra weak photon emission.
As your cells produce energy, tiny particles of light are released as a normal part of metabolism.
Hereās the wild partā¦
š” The light is about 1,000 times too faint for the human eye to see, but highly sensitive scientific cameras can detect it.
Even more fascinating? Studies have found that this natural glow appears to change throughout the day, with light emissions often being stronger later in the day than in the morning.
So the next time someone tells you to ālet your light shineāā¦
You already are. āØ
The human body is incredible, mysterious, and endlessly fascinating. And I canāt wait to share more weird-but-true facts with you every Friday!
